(((Ok, I got this idea when CF was on last night. for a few brief moments. There was a thread named similar to this, but it got deleated. Obviously it was not what I thought it was. So, I decided to make this. Here are a few rules:
1) The basic No 'S'es: No swearing, no sex, no...uh...sssssssgoriness
2) Anyone can join, and the more the better.
3) There is no real time period. It is neither past or future. Technology is, well, what ever you want it to be.
4) Any time the web site is down for over six hours, everything changes. I'll explain that more at the end.
Without further much ado about nothing, here's the story. It's a bit long, so hang in there.)))
Raleigh Hochberg was busy working on the CF server, trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Suddenly the phone rang. It was Erwin.
"Raleigh, I think I found something you aught to see. Get over here," was all he said.
Raleigh quickly made his way to Erwin's office. "What?"
"I found something most interesting in the site's source code. Look at these lines. Now look here. This is where the code is supposed to connect. All this in between is not supposed to be here. Do you know what it is?"
Raleigh looked at the code. It wasn't supposed to be there. As he scanned the lines and failed to make sense of it, it occured to him what these lines were. The whispered word, "Spidrax," seaped from his lips.
"What is it?" Erwin asked.
Raleigh looked at him with an odd smile on his face. "Spidrax." he repeated. Spidrax is a rogue code which runs itself throughout the web. No one has ever been able to isolate it. Hang on." Raleigh furiously typed on the keyboard. "There," he said, "I had to hold up the web site to do it, but I've trapped it in our system."
"Why is this so important," Erwin asked, "That you had to shut down the site?"
"Spidrax is a legend," Raleigh said, excitedly, "It's like Atlantis! No, it--it's like Avalon!" Erwin was not following, so Raleigh backed up. "Spidrax is a two part code. When the internet was began, a circuit conduit exploded. One of the developers claimed he saw a vortex to another world. The programmers said there was a new code in the framing matrix of the net. Before they could delete it, it vanished. Since then, there has been rumors all around about it. It's most commonly believed that anyone who inputs one code with the rogue code, it will reopen that vortex."
Erwin mused over this. "Well, see what you can do, but I don't hold the site up for more than a day, all right?"
"Ok," Raleigh said, half interested in what erwin had said.
All day he searched and searched through the web. He put in code after code after code, but nothing worked. Countless rumors, endless dead ends, and about 11:30 he was giving up hope. He desided that there was no one who had found or known the second code.
He sighed and unlocked the website, but not before he copied the Spidrax code. He watched the site source code until the Spidrax code vanished. CF was up and running again. He desided to check a couple of threads in which he was involved. As he did, the site stopped responding. Why did it do that? The Spidrax code was gone. Wasn't it?
Quickly he scanned through the source code. Indeed the code was gone. He bit his lower lip. On a hunch, he locked the source code again. He still had fifteen minutes. Granted, he was stretching it a bit, but that did not matter to him. Quickly he searched the whole length of the code. No. No. Nothing. That was good. That was good. That w--There. There was something that did not belong. It was the other half of the code, he was sure of it. He went back to the copied part of the code. With quivering fingers, he copied and pasted the first part of the Spidrax code. Opening an artifical test net, he ran the Spidrax code.
Nothing happened. Raleigh frowned. This was not the way it was supposed to work. Then he remembered one of the rumors he had heard. It said the Spidrax code was mirrored from another site, thus the codes would be reversed. With trembling fingers, he input the first code after the second one and ran the test again.
It happened. Like a whirlpool, or like some kind of photoworks swirly trick, the computor screen began to fuse in and out of our world. The portal was open. Raleigh reached for his cell phone. "Erwin, I think you should see this."
Moments later the two were standing together looking into the portal. "What do you think it does?" Erwin asked.
"I guess it leads into another world," Raleigh replied.
"So... now what?"
Raleigh had not thought that far. "I," he started, than hesitated. "I guess I go through it."
Erwin blinked unbelievingly. "What? Go through it? Why? For what purpose?"
Raleigh blinked unbelievingly. He still had not thought that far. "I...uh...because it's there."
It sounded absurd, and yet, perfectly sane, somehow. Erwin frowned but nodded. "All right, but you realize the risks. You may not come back."
Raleigh had not realized the risks, so he shook his head and said, "I'll get back, don't you worry."
"Ok, are you ready then?"
Raleigh looked around. "I guess; no wait." He grabbed his cell phone. "I'll call if I need help."
The two stood there. Raleigh still had not thought very far into this. "I... uh... I guess I just touch it."
Erwin had nothing to say. Raleigh touched it. Everything went dark.
Raleigh opened his eyes into a starry sky and a full moon. He was lying in grass. What a dream, he thought. He stood stiffly. Arh, how awful he felt. He would never fall asleep in the yard again. He looked to the west to see a large crescent moon coming over the horizon. What a beautiful moon tonight. And so big.
That is when it struck him. He looked up. There was the full moon. He looked to the west. The crescent moon was growing ever larger. He looked back and forth several times, just to make certain they were both there again. There was no denying it. He was in another world.
Raleigh sighed. "This is not going to be easy. Guess I better start exploring." He saw a light off to his south, a strong, yellow light, like that of a candle, only much bigger. He walked toward it.
(((Now, like I said, anytime CF is down for more than six hours, the "Spidrax code" takes over and changes the entire world, characters included. The only things that will not change are Raleigh, since he's not part of the "Spidrax code" world, his cell phone, his original clothing, and the other characters' memories(unless you decide that).
Oh, and one more thing: No one can play Erwin except Erwin. He kinda has that right. I doubt he will though. He's a very busy man. I only used him to get this story of the ground, and I hope I did no disrespect.
So make up some characters and get in here. I'll make up Raleigh's character info if anyone shows interest in this.)))
