It could have been in the records that the Book of Mormon was abridged from. But that was not the purpose of the Book of Mormon. The practice of being baptised for the dead had not been performed since ancient times, and was lost during the great apostasy. We do not need to have these truths in the Book of Mormon. These instructions are restored and given to us by revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants.
