Just to remind you all, it IS against forum rules for us to debate Calvinism in that forum. JJB's post is reasonable in that it invites those in WoF to get "the rest of the story" from Calvinists themselves. Tread lightly though in going to any great lengths to explain Calvinism in that thread.

I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about the word of faith movement - never, ever watch benny hinn or kenneth copeland. But I want to be clear - they truly believe that God lost His sovereignty and power? They're giving Satan equal strength and ability???

I dabbled in Word of Faith about twenty years ago. Check out this teaching of theirs on Job...

They say that Job's calamities were solely because he sinned in being fearful for his children. (Job 1:5) They also say that God didn't give Satan permission to afflict Job; God was reminding Satan that he already held that authority. (Job 1:12; 2:6)

They do believe that God has lost authority here on Earth because it was all handed over to Satan in the Fall. The only authority they say God has here on Earth is what we (or they, I suppose) reclaim for God.

first of all - happy birthday (since you'll be 41 you can join the fabulous 40's thread - nothing this heavy, but lots of fun memories).

second - and more importantly, thank you for the response. I'm truly astounded that folks can interpret the Bible that way, but recognize Scriptural warning of false teachers. No question they exist.

Personally... I don't even know why this website allows for such heresy to be even part of the forums. I mean... it's a heresy... a terrible one at that. Totally false interpretation of scripture, yadyadyada.....

I can understand why we would allow those who are in "theological error" because that's not a salvation issue... heresy is. It's so terrible.... God not sovereign? God not as powerful as satan? Right..... sounds almost like open theism to me...

Well, I was speaking (instant message) with someone from CF the other day and this person was suspended for a while for certain posts regarding "Women Pastors." By using biblical texts and refusing to back down, this member was called "unloving" and hateful and told to learn how to love people. Umm. . .that is not good. Of course, the posts were in the Liberal theology section, nonetheless, that such things as this and the other posts mention on this thread would be allowed, condoned, and promoted is very disturbing.

Pshaw! That's such an insensitive thing to say.

My goodness!!! You two sound so UNLOVING and so HATEFUL! I think that you guys should lighten up and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE! :p Hahahaha!

You know, the funniest part about the whole thing is that who loves better than a Calvinist? I mean, we see people on their way to hell and we actually tell them about it, their wicked sinfulness, and their need for salvation through Christ. If this isn't love then what is? Now I realize that every denomination evangelizes (minus the hypers), but how many of them mention the words evil, wicked, sin, depraved, HELL, or even REPENT? Umm, very few of the Arminian churches that I ever attended spoke on these things especially when they were evangelizing.

Some churches not only aren't preaching on these subjects, they've removed them from their hymnals. For example - to make it more palatable the words to "Amazing Grace" have been changed from "that saved a wretch like me" to ". . . a person like me."

I really loved this! But, it was sad, too.
Arminian Grace

Arminian grace! How strange the sound
Salvation hinged on ME
I once was lost then turned around
Was blind then chose to see
What “grace” is it that calls for choice
Out of some good within?
The part that willed to heed God’s voice
Proved stronger than my sin

Through many ardent gospel pleas
I sat with heart of stone
But then some hidden good in me
Propelled me toward my home

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Because of what we’ve done
We’ve no less days to sing our praise
Than when we first begun
