  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The scourge, and sometimes the joke, of Topeka.

Seems whenever we are in Topeka, Fred and his group are picketing somebody. Last time it was the Lutherans, who were holding a presentation of certificates for men completing a course of study deacons or lay leaders. Went to Mass one Sunday in downtown and they were down the block at a Methodist church. I understand they are regulars at Washburn U. graduations. Saw them when my brother received his degree in law. (Fred's sons and daughters are graduates of W.U. School of Law.)

Someone, enlighten me please. Who exactly is this Fred Phelps guy?

I'll pm you his website. Wouldn't want to contaminate this nice forum.
Just be prepared for the worst.

Thanks Annabel and Jeff.:)

You would think there would be some kind of law against a guy like that. Is he the preacher at that Westboro Baptist Church? He is evil, using God's word as a platform for hate. Who would build a ministry around hate? Worse yet, are people blind enough to follow this guy?

I believe the members are 90% his family (give or take a few). I wonder about the people who marry into this family. :(    They of course bring out the children to participate.

I just did a google search on Mr. Phelps.

How utterly, completely, unimaginably sad that someone would allow such hatred and contempt to rule his life. and the lives of his followers.

I guess all I can do is pray, for him, for his followers, and for his victims.

And if that wasn't enough, on his website he has the unmitigated gall to have a soundbite of Matthew Sheppard in hell screaming, "For God's sake, listen to Phelps!"

I know from reading scripture that God sees homosexuality as an abomination. But we are to reach out in love and compassion to those who are being persecuted for their lifestyle. We are not to picket funerals, say such tripe like "no tears for queers", ad nauseum. :(
