No "Father Of God"
No "King of... well, anything"
No shrines,
etc., etc., etc.... he's almost comparatively absent.
If we're blessed "rather" for for hearing & obeying, than for having the "paps & womb",...
Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Then shouldn't Joe get more & better attention than Mary? Think about it. All Joe needed to go against his better judgement & ditch this already pregnant young girl, was an angel in a dream.

Is there a reason other than the biology Jesus dismissed, that Mary is worhipped(dulia;) ) & Joeseph is comparatively ignored?

He is the patron of fathers. Numerous churches are named for him and his family. While I know of no large body of theological study devoted to him, perhaps he is not as forgotten as you portray.

In addition, you are comparing two various things, in my mind. Mary agreed to be a part of God's plan of salvation by bearing God. That pretty heavy. Joseph married a pregnant woman. While it may have taken some intervention by the dream, this similar act has repeated untold times in the last 2,000 years. I am not aware of any virgin births since that one.

Brother, we are never going to agree on this kind of stuff. Religion is a matter of faith and theory. We may believe in our hearts but we will never KNOW until our time is run in this world. I wish you peace.

Jesus didn't require any different bearing than any other baby, just a virgin of Davidic ancestry.
I think my protrayal is verifiable at a glance.

The difference is that Jesus got His human nature solely from Mary. Not from both Joseph and Mary.

Thus the dulia(worship) of Mary

He did guard and take care of both Mary and Jesus by providing for both of them. (Flight into Egypt)

There are numerous devotions, orders, Churches and and Shrines devoted to named and/or devoted to St. Joseph.

Right after the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph is the most revered saint in the Church. The prayers, litanies, and patronages to him are too numerous to list. But this is your lucky day, and I'll list a few for you. :)

The only reason that from your prespective he doesn't get as much attention, is that those that are anti-catholic are not as obsessed with Joseph, as they are with Mary. But among Catholics he is very, much loved.

Peace be with you...Pam

Remember, most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, our beloved patron, never was it known that anyone invoked your protection and sought your aid without being comforted. Inspired with this confidence, I come to you and commend myself to you. Do not despise my petition, dear foster father of our Redeemer, but accept them graciously and pray for me to adopted Son, Our Lord.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

Glorious Saint Joseph, foster-father and protector of Jesus Christ, to you I raise my heart and my hands to implore your powerful intercession. Please obtain for me from the kind Heart of Jesus the help and the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare. I ask particularly for the grace of a happy death and the special favor I now implore. {mention your petition}

Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I feel animated with confidence that your prayers in my behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. O glorious Saint Joseph, through the love you bear to Jesus Christ, and for the glory of His name, hear my prayers and obtain my petitions.

Prayer to Saint Joseph Before Mass

O Blessed Joseph, happy man, to whom it was given not only to see and to hear that God Whom many kings longed to see, and saw not, to hear, and heard not; but also to carry Him in your arms, to embrace Him, to clothe Him, and guard and defend Him.

V Pray for us, O Blessed Joseph.
R That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God, Who has given us a royal priesthood, we beseech Thee, that as Blessed Joseph was found worthy to touch with his hands, and to bear in his arms, Thy only-begotten Son, born of the Virgin Mary, so may we be made fit, by cleanness of heart and blamelessness of life, to minister at Thy holy altar; may we, this day, with reverent devotion partake of the Sacred Body and Blood of Your Only-begotten Son, and may we in the world to come be accounted worthy of receiving an everlasting reward. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

What emanates from the figure of Saint Joseph is faith. Joseph of Nazareth is a "just man" because he totally "lives by faith." He is holy because his faith is truly heroic.

Sacred Scripture says little of him. It does not record even one word spoken by Joseph, the carpenter of Nazareth. And yet, even without words, he shows the depth of his faith, his greatness.

Saint Joseph is a man of great spirit. He is great in faith, not because he speaks his own words, but above all because he listens to the words of the Living God. He listens in silence. And his heart ceaselessly perseveres in the readiness to accept the Truth contained in the word of the Living God.

We see how the word of the Living God penetrates deeply into the soul of that man, that just man. And we, do we know how to listen to the word of God? Do we know how to absorb it into the depths of our human personalities? Do we open our conscience in the presence of this word?

Actually, they are going to rename this forum probably very soon to Hagiography and Mariology, as per a request I've made.

Oh, and since St. Joseph the Betrothed is my Patron Saint, I'd like the OP to retract.

The Irresistable PaladinValer has spoken!
Mods comply!
But don't hold yer breath for a retraction.
Mary veneration is a whale next your guppie of veneration for Joseph.;)

NOBODY is "right after" Mary. She is Queen of Heaven, Immaculately Concieved, Perpetualy Virgin, and as sinless as Jesus.
You could fill this forum with Joseph veneration & it would still be but a drop in the ocean of Mary worship.

"The only reason that from your prespective he doesn't get as much attention, is that those that are anti-catholic are not as obsessed with Joseph, as they are with Mary. But among Catholics he is very, much loved."
It may look that way to anti-Protestants, but Maryology provides mountains of material where no Josephology even exists, so criticism follows Catholic obsession, not it's own. It is ludicrous to suggest Joseph gets any where near as much attention, & that it isn't noticed because critics are May obsessed.

Joseph is the perfect antidote to Mary obsession.

RO - seem like you are making some rather crude generalizations. If you really think that discussing if venerating Joseph more would help people accept Mary, I'm afraid you won't get much interest.

I do think that the critics are Mary obsessed - ironic.

Ignorance of other peoples practices does not make it true or false.

How about some Johnology?

Apolytikion in the Fourth Tone
O Prophet and Forerunner of the presence of Christ, we who fervently honor you cannot worthily praise you. For by your revered and glorious birth the barrenness of your mother and the muteness of your father were unbound, and the icarnation of the Son of God is proclaimed to the world.
Kontakion in the Third Tone
She that once was barren doth today bring forth Christ's Forerunner, John, the ulmination and the crown of all the Prophets. For when he, in River Jordan, aid his hand on Him Whom the Prophets preached aforetime, he was evealed as od the Word's fore-chosen Prophet, His mighty preacher, and His Forerunner in race.

Maybe there should be a special section for "My-ology". The study of what "I" believe based on "my" reading of "my" Bible.

"Joseph is the perfect antidote to Mary obsession"
....
that is a hurtful comment, I would think to him especially. And to Jesus as well.
You will most likely be very surprised when you get to heaven!;)

I love St. Joseph, he's like my spiritual Dad.

Its a good hurt.
Consider it a spanking.
I am given no consideration for MY hurt feelings over this,
I suffer crude generalizations plenty.
Want mercy? Show some.
But don't expect any respect for intellectual dishonesty.

Mary devotion is big business, St. Joe is small change.
You need a good hurting pinch to wake you up, if you imagine any different.

Kristos, I can't imagine where you might've imagined that I would be selling the idea of giving more attention to Joseph.

Critics follow the obsession, they don't create it.
They may be obsessed with criticizing the obsession, but they are not themselves "Mary obsessed".

There already IS a "Myology". It is called The Magesterium.

Well actually...
the only other thing I've ever said to you here at CF is to thank you for the link you put up on your thread about "Stop saying you don't worship Mary." It was a good link!
So....I don't think I wasn't 'merciful' to you.
