Paul in 1 Cor 6:9,10 say's you are only fooling yourself to believe what you just said above. You are inferring that those works of hay and straw are immorality and that is not what Paul is saying. You are, but Paul is not. A person will not be saved as by fire who worships idols, or is sexually immoral, or is a homosexual, or greedy or a drunkard or murderer, or thieves etc. these are not works of straw these are works of the damned.

You are mistaken.

He is not talking about habitual, continued sin absent of repentance.

He is talking about the judgment of the believer's works;

1 Corinthians 3;
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Using your logic a murderer cannot be saved at all. Using your logic no one can be saved because we are all guilty of murder.

Using your logic... how do you get immorality to be works of the believer from the words straw and hay? Using your logic...what is habitual? once a month, once every two weeks, three times a week and then quit for a year and continue on a spree for every week thereafter...how do define how many times is repentance and how many times is habitual? Jesus told people to stop sinning PERIOD! not go ahead and sin at certain intervals like you teach.

Seemingly endless; interminable. See synonyms at ageless. , continual. 5. Of or relating to spiritual communion with God, especially in the afterlife.

The common usage, of the word eternal is that which refers to God, the only Eternal Being. I have shown that Everlasting is an equally acceptable translation of the Greek, and I believe it more correctly states the intent of the passage.

And what's with the "experientially" parenthetical addition to the verse? It's not in the Greek. It's obviously an attempt at eisegesis, reading into the verse something that isn't there. I'd say that ABIC is trying to read his theology into the verse. He couldn't even spell it correctly.

ABIC said:

You act as though I were denying scripture. You're the one hung up on a word, a word which I have shown can be as easily translated "everlasting", and is actually the more accurate translation, given that God alone is Eternal.

ABIC said:
havin eternal life is having God's kind of life right now! do not take everlasting life is the same thing they are simular but very different...those that do not have the Son has everlasting life in Hell... who wants that...

You have yet to cite one verse that states that the damned have everlasting life in Hell, as a contrast with eternal life for the Believer. Your little construct is made up out of whole cloth, because scripture does not say what you are saying. Show us the verse(s) or admit that you don't know what you're talking about. You are trying to separate words that bear more equivalency than difference.

I believe it is more correct to reserve "eternal" as an adjective to be used when referring to God Himself, and "everlasting" as an adjective when referring to His gift to us of life without end in His Presence.

Are you ashamed to take a swipe at me? Let's magnify it so all can see your smart-mouthed dig:

ABIC said:

ABIC apparently thinks that he's being funny. I pointed out to him that his little theory was full of holes, so he starts taking shots at me, as though I were mentally deficient, or English was my second or third language.

The truth is, ABIC has not provided one shred of scripture to prove that there is a difference between eternal life and everlasting life, and has not addressed the point that I made regarding God being eternal, and us not being so. He just starts getting snotty and childish, and tries to deflect attention away from his unscriptural position.

Let's get it straight: God alone is eternal. His Life is truly Eternal Life. We are given the gift of Everlasting Life when we believe on Christ. Go check you KJV, you will see that it is translated as Everlasting Life in John 3:16.

Some may think this is much ado about nothing, but accuracy is important. ABIC is trying to promote an unscriptural position, and can't back it up.

Hard to see what you are getting at here but it is true that "eternal life" does not mean "never ending life." If that were true, those in hell will have eternal life too because the life they live in hell will never end.

Moreover, eternal life in John is a reference to the PERSON of Jesus (see 1 John 1:2 for example) not a condition we exist in. And that is why you also see people inheriting eternal life on judgment day. On that day, we ourselves will become immortally glorified beings.

It is true! Those in hell will suffer for the rest of eternity.

Daniel xii.2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Matthew xviii.8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

Matthew xxv. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Matthew xxv.46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

2nd Thessalonians 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Revelation 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

You are mistaken.

He is not talking about habitual, continued sin absent of repentance.

He is talking about the judgment of the believer's works;

1 Corinthians 3;

Now where is there anything about "immorality" in the 1 Cor. 3 passage above?

You are confusing the works done in Christ which that passage addresses, with something else that you want to contrive as evidence for the misperceived notion that salvation can be lost.

No, I don't have to define those, but you do, since it is your erroneous idea that no one is saved unless they never, ever sin again period.

How many sins have you committed today that you do not even know about?

Have you repented of them all, listing each one?

James says that if a man knows a good thing to do, and does not do it, that he is in sin.

How many good things have you known to do today or in the past week and have not done them?

Guess what? You ARE in sin.;)

Are you now in a state of actualized sinlessness?

For starters, you fail to understand that the Biblical concept of being in sin, is cylical, as Paul puts it, "a walk" or "practice" that is an ongoing walk in life.

Now, if you want to set yourself up as judge and condemn someone to everlasting hell for one sin committed after regeneration, then you have to condemn the Apostle Paul, along with yourself.;)

For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse. (Rom 1:20) LITV

for the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world, by the things made being understood, are plainly seen, both His eternal power and Godhead--to their being inexcusable; (Rom 1:20) YLT

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Rom 1:20) ESV

Hmmmm...seems you have a small problem here. The Greek word you insist is translated as "everlasting" is translated in Jude that way, but in Romans, according to the KJV, ESV, Young's Literal, and the Literal Version, among others, it is translated as "Eternal", which bolsters my point that in reference to God and His Attributes, Eternal is the better translation.

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the day of judgementof the great day..

All of the above versions translate the word in Jude 6 as "everlasting", because it is not in reference to God or His Character or Attributes.

You are trying to make a distinction where there is none. Your examples fall flat, because you are trying to make a quantitative difference between Eternal life and Everlasting life, and the Greek can be translated either way, so there really is no difference, other than it seems that the translators treat the word as I have pointed out, "eternal" when in reference to God, "everlasting" for all others. The difference I point out is in reference to the distinction the translators make, which is consistent and clear, and is sound theology.

Any way you slice it, we receive Everlasting Life when we are joined to Christ, because we had a beginning, a time when we were not, while God alone is Eternal.

You're trying to create a doctrine out of thin air, and scripture does not support your contentions.

Now, how about giving us scripture that states that those in Hell have everlasting life? Surely you can produce them, can't you?

so when the majority says one thing they are always right...by your doctrine....Matt 7:13-14...warning ...warning...common sense please

My statement is that why two word and a majority of the time it is call eternal....

everlasting word in NT is named twice in Greek yet not translated the same
so if romans 1:20 is eternal please define the other greek word that is commonly used for eternal...

why did God lead these men to use a different word to be translated to be the same diffintion
All of the above versions translate the word in Jude 6 as "everlasting", because it is not in reference to God or His Character or Attributes.

Christ is the way, the truth and the life. Mere existence isn't life. Life is an intimate union with Christ. Life is resting in Him. It is joy unspeakable and full of glory. It is peace that passes understanding. Christ is life, anything else is just existence.

from "Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words" c. 1997, p.377b:

Everlasting:
1: ANONIOS: see Eternal.
2: AIDIOS (ἀΐ́διος) denotes everlasting (from aei, ever), Romans i.20, R.V., "everlasting," for A.V., "eternal;" Jude vi, A.V. and R.V., "everlasting." Anionios, should always be translated 'eternal' and aidios, "Everlasting." "While aionios...negatives the end either of a space of time or of unmeasured time, and is used chiefly where something future is spoken of, aidios excludes interruption and lays stress upon permanence and unchangeableness" (Cremer).

No, we simply ignore a bad exegesis of Scripture such as the misinterpretation of "everlasting", when "eternal" is proper as NBF says and is backed up by the original language and the context it is used in.

The way to inherit eternal life is to repent, put your trust in Jesus, and believe He will save you by the gift of His sacrafice. Works are the fruits of a changed heart. If your heart is not truly changed, God knows. Lack of Works will show your lack of change. But consider this... totally paralyzed person accepts Christ. Should they then not inherit eternal life because they cannot physically do works?
