  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm just trying to help by pointing out various reasons for the failure of people in general and minorities and women in particular. A good coach points out the shortcomings of his players as well as their attributes. I'm only an 'assistant' coach so I focus on the shortcomings.
A self-appointed coach at that.

Typically, coaches have actual experience in the field they coach in. I somehow think that perhaps you have no experience in being a person of color or a woman.

So in regard to helping blacks and women white men need not apply? Suits me, I have other things I can be doing. I still reserve the right to make comments on these forums however in hopes that some poor soul will get the message.

Should I go through my charities and discard any that claim to help blacks and women?

Well, I was going to respond, but silly me- I read OldWiseGuys comments!

I just can't with this place more of the time anymore. I'm going to take my Black woman self back to my desk and go back to work on my 2nd job. Just have to remind myself I'm not working hard enough!

Good for you. A second job is a time-honored way of getting ahead. I have always had more than one source of income, sometimes three.

White men rarely intend for their help to actually be beneficial to people of color or women. As to your charities, do as you like. But if those charities are run by white men they are not likely to be of much help either.

That is the most cynical statement I have heard in a long time.

Most charities are 'color blind'. Minorities are the recipients of a lot of charity. When I write a check I don't qualify who it should go to. It's out of my hands.

My point is that at some point these people have to learn how to 'fish' for themselves, and the sooner the better. And who better to teach than those who know how to fish? :D

My point is that the 'playing field' in America isn't level. It is slanted toward those people who are White and male. But because you have played on that field all your life you don't perceive it as being unequal.

Your success is not just because you play the game well. It is also because you have to almost be poor at the game to fail because everything is biased in your favor.

This is something that most people who have not had the benefit of being either colored or female would understand. You THINK you are good at 'fishing' when, in fact, someone is tossing fish into your boat and chasing the fish away from other people's boat.

it's better to know how to build wealth than to have it all plopped down on you suddenly.

the vast majority of lottery winners end up blowing all their money on crap. the money is gone in a matter of months and they don't know how to get more. "a fool and his money will soon part" is no truer than with lottery winners.

Hey, I work hard for my fish.

You do have a point about white privilege, but I attribute that to the birthright blessing (Thank you Father.). However, minorities do get to fish in the same pond as us. They just need to come prepared and be shown where and how to fish. Sadly they resist this help.

The question is how to bring this sense of happiness to others?

We must teach them that they are free to determine their own happiness. We can start by having a conversation with them that goes like this;

I will give you my opinion freely.
I will give you my advice if you ask for it.
I will instruct you if you pay me.
