In verse 6 a certain man had planted a FIG TREE in his vineyard and sought fruit thereon and found none ,

In verse 7 , And HE said to the dresser , of his vineyard , Behold , these THREE YEARS I come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none , CUT IT DOWN

why cumbereth it n the ground .

In verse 7 , I believe that the HE is God the Father and the Dresser is Jesus Christ ,and the FIG TREE is Israel .

In verse 8 , And HE ( is Jesus Christ ) said unto Him Lord ( the Father ) let it alone this year , till I shall DIG about it and DUNG

In verse 9 , And if bear fruit well , and IF NOT , then after that thou shalt CUT IT DOWN .

This is just another verse that shows why Israel was set aside .

No matter what period of time.
Joel 3:2
"I will gather together all the [Gentile] nations [that were hostile to My people] And bring them down into the Valley of Jehoshaphat (the Lord has judged). And there I will deal with them and enter into judgment with them there For [their treatment of] My people, My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations, And [because] they have encroached on My land and divided it up." (Joel 3:2)

"I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew..." (Rom 11)

'He spake also this parable;
A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard;
.. and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
.... Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard,
...... Behold, these three years
(the period of the Lord's ministry)
........ I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none:
.......... cut it down;
(i.e., 'cut it out' - from among the vines)
............ why cumbereth it the ground? (i.e.,' injureth it the the soil also' - to spoil or weaken the effectiveness of it)
And he answering said unto him,
.. Lord, let it alone this year also,
.... till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
...... And if it bear fruit, well: and if not,
........ then after that
(i.e.,in the future)
.......... thou shalt cut it down.' (re. Israel's national privileges within that generation ?) ( AD70 ?)
(Luke 13:6-9)

Hello @Dan Perez & @tturt,

This combines the fig tree and the vine. The fig tree being the symbol of Israel's national privileges. Here it refers to the special privileges of that generation (compare Jeremiah 24:3, Hosea 9:10 & Matt.21:19)

'Then said the LORD unto me,
What seest thou, Jeremiah?
And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good;
and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.'

(Jer 24:3)

'I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness;
I saw your fathers as the first-ripe in the fig tree at her first time:
but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto that shame;
and their abominations were according as they loved.'

(Hos 9:10)

'And when He saw a fig tree in the way,
He came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only,
and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever.
And presently the fig tree withered away.'

(Mat 21:19)

* Interesting! :) Lots to consider!
* Israel was given a further forty years (approx.) before it ceased to be a nation in AD70. During which the ministry of the twelve continued to sound forth the Kingdom message to Israel in the land and then in the diaspora. The fig tree was therefore given full opportunity.

Thank you

'Abide in me, and I in you.
.. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine;
.... no more can ye, except ye abide in Me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches:
.. He that abideth in me, and I in him,
.... the same bringeth forth much fruit:
...... for without Me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in Me,
(speaking generally, not personally)
.. he is
(was) cast forth as a branch, and is (was) withered; (perhaps referring to the fig tree)
.... and men gather
(-ed) them, and cast them into the fire, and they are (were) burned. (Aorist tense)
If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
.. ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
.... Herein is My Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit;
...... so shall ye be My disciples.'

(Joh 15:4-8)

My point is this :

#1 There are many that say and believe that the OLD COVENANT is still to be Honored and to have Priest !

#2 So what n Happened to the Sacrifices ??

#3 Water Baptism is still to be Enforced .

#4 We have not yet seen Israel and Judah made ONE STICK in Ezk 37 :15-19 .

#5 This why we are to Rightly Divide 2:15 !!
