Ministry of death? The spirit has lead me to attempt to uphold the commandments and laws given by GOD through moses. Are you saying that if I uphold the commandments and laws Jesus now will abandon me? The commandments and laws of GOD are now somehow different? GOD is in disagreement with himself? I am confused. Jesus came first to the Jew and then the Gentile, are you telling me that the rules for the Christian Jew and gentile are different? Less is expected of the Christian Gentile then the Christian Jew?
Interesting, so the word of GOD is not true. When Jesus says we must do all of the law, he is lying?
As far as adultry goes he addressed that issue plainly. We are not to punish with out due course of the law. (Matthew 18:15-17) The church does not deal out justice as it once did. We do not stone people because it is illegal in our society to do so.
By the way, I am not trying to argue, I am trying to understand, but you aren't giving me any biblical references to aide me.
That sabbath rest has not taken place yet. That rest will take place after the day of Judgement I thought? Now you have me confused again. So I am not to honor the sabbath at all now?
Dear Natalie,
All of the word of God is as true today as it was when it was written, however, Jesus fulfilled the OT law. We are no longer under the law (Paul calls the law the ministry of death in 1 Cor. 3) and are under grace (Paul calls it the ministry of the Spirit). The bible tells us that those that live by the law will be judged by the law (all of the law) (Romans 2).
The law is the Mosaic law which includes laws to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example), laws to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system), and laws intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). All of the law was fulfilled by Christ (Gal. 3).
Jesus fulfilled the law. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Gal. 3). Surely Christ did not fulfill only part of the law since that would mean that we are still under it and Christ failed. Christ fulfilled ALL of the law and that includes ALL of the Mosaic law including the ten commandments.
Now, Christ, by His grace, gave us the ministry of the Spirit which is grace. We are saved by faith through grace not of works so that we can not boast. Grace can not be earned since earned grace is no grace at all. Christ gave us two commandments which summarize the commandments to love God and the commandments to love others. Jesus told us that all of the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments (Matt. 22:40). All of the original ten commandments are reaffirmed except for the 4th commandment. Remember that since the original 10 commandments are part of the Mosaic law, and since Jesus fulfilled all of the law then the 4th commandment is fulfilled. Jesus command us to follow HIS commandments (John 14:15).
Jesus commandments do not include keeping any one particular day holy but to live as if every day is for the Lord. We can keep any day of the week holy or every day of the week. It matters not because we live for the Lord and die for the Lord, hence we are the Lord's.
Romans 14
6 He who observes the day, observes
it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe
it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lords.
Also, no one can judge us for not keeping the Jewish Sabbath.
Col. 2
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
Ok, this is long enough.lol!!!
