That's one awesome question that I never thought about before!! I think we need more kids in the congregations to ask these types of questions. Really makes you think.

Is there scriptural support for Hebrew?

Like the fact the Old Testament was written in Hebrew? That is all I can think of.

Honestly I always thought the first language was English because of their names and how "womb" is from "woman" - the word Adam called Eve. If they had Hebrew names, I would not expect the Bible to have an English name for either of them. But throughout the Bible many more people have English names: Sarah, Paul, Peter, Andrew, John, James, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary, Mark, and many more I don't even know.

Adam can't symbolize all of mankind. Genesis 5 says adam fathered Seth at 130. Gen 5:5 says he lived 930 years. That is the beginning of a genealogy list up to Noah. Mankind did not cease to exist after 930 years. Adam was a real man.

Romans 5 says sin came in to the world by one man.

930 years, that's one old man.

Adam and Eve spoke no language but they started using sounds to convey meaning which then morph into words. Language is a human development that evolves over time with new phonetic sounds called words added on. Not that long ago words like blob and vlog and meme and emoji didn't exist.
Earliest words were sounds that convey a meaning. We look at a cat we say meow a dog is woof woof, some animals purrrrr, when we play with a baby we alter our voice and may give semi intelligible sounds that sound soothing and non- threatening. A loud sound is a boom, a pinch to your skin is an ouch, etc. How did words like 'yummy' come about or who was the first to use 'muah' to convey a kiss in computer messaging/texting etc. Didn't require an intelligible system of language for Adam to know Eve was mad if she screamed. It would only take 5 minutes to figure out why and possibly add a new sound effect to convey it.

Here's a question...

Adam was made from the dust - no ancestors to teach him how to speak - created as a fully grown individual.

He communicated with God and Eve. Eve communicated with the Serpent.

What was the common language?

Was it voice communication or direct spirit to spirit communication?

My 5 year old Grandson asked... Can you answer?
Every good red blooded american know He spoke English! ^_^:ebil:

The oldest indigenous race is in Australia. Therefore, Adam spoke Australian English. I am amazed at how ignorant people are.

Well then put another shrimp on the Barbie MAte!!!!

Is there scriptural support for Hebrew?

"Hebrew" is named after Eber, who is mentioned in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10. So Hebrew could not have predated him.

Adam would have spoken whatever has the one language that was spoken before the Tower of Babel. The Bible doesn't name it. Probably wasn't given a name if it was the only language spoken.

Obviously there is no historical record of what language the first humans spoke. They undoubtedly built their own language as required to meet their needs, just as many human populations have done since then.

I would tell my grandson that I don't know because the Bible doesn't say so.

Language is one of the arguments against evolution. It is not an inherent ability, as anyone with a deaf child knows. They don't learn to speak until and unless they are able to hear. So how did humanity go from unintelligible grunts (you know, like teenagers talking to parents) to the amazing power of speech that we have now?

Body language is an inherent ability in all people whether they are born deaf or not. People with profound hearing loss (>90 dB) often learn sign language first and a spoken language after they get hearing aids. I read on a Bible site there are Bibles for people whose native language is American sign language (ASL) to help them learn it in English. Of course, there also are people who become deaf later in life, so they know how to speak and read the local written language.

We need more curious adults. My mom tells me I should not ask questions at the end of lectures because they are weird. I think what I want to know should not be weird.

I hold true that it was the language of nature... That is why when the serpent spoke to him, it was natural.. He spoke natures language and could communicate with all creatures...

(my thinks)

A fellow believer, Not me
