What Kinds of Stories do YOU Like?

I'm doing a study on what kinds of stories people like to read... and even what kind of movies you like to watch. What's important to you in what you consider to be a good tale? Why do you read? Comments are very welcome!

I read because it helps me gain strength in writing (both inspiration and structure). What I expect out of a book is all the elements a good book has:

Humor (dark or light)
Realistic and deep characters that both aid and irk eachother
No cliches or overused lines (big for me, but it's ok if it's making fun of it)
Page-turning writing is always sweet
No ends that leave me hanging (and i'm not talking about cliff hangers)
And without saying, the genre which I enjoy the most

Again, a realistic environment and characters is a huge thing for me. I can't read something I'm not willing to believe and get sucked into.

As for movies, I like (again) realism and especially intelligence. I tend to stay away from dumb movies (which is most these days so bleh) and chick flicks are bad for my health. Hope this helps your study, jazz.
