As you form a relationship with Christ, there are certain types of music, not genres, but more or less people that you begin to not listen to. Me personally, I listen to all kinds of music that gives God all the glory, and not glory to anything of this world (i.e. sex, drugs, lust, money, materialism, etc.).

You must confuse what I am saying however. There is nothing wrong with rap, rock, pop, r&b, etc. All these are merely ways of spreading a message. A person can spread the word of God through rap (i.e Cross Movement), rock (Third Day), r&b (Martha Munizzi), etc. Just allow God to deliver you from all things that are not of Him, and remember James 4.4 as you listen to whatever music you do... Whoever is a friend of the world (friend of worldy objects and topics) becomes an enemy of God!

God Bless,
Neia

Nah, I think actually Enya and Yanni are more demonic than metal and rap.

But maybe that's just me.

I disagree. Enya and Yanni are gifted artists. Its just you

I could've sworn there was a news story not too long ago about Yanni and Enya teaming up and traveling the countryside stealing the souls of innocent children and forcing them to listen to their most recent albums. Which would make sense, as there is significant biblical documentation that Yanni is the antichrist.

you know when something isn't right , the Holy Spirit within makes you feel uncomfortable ....... I walked out of a Judas Priest concert a week ago , I only went to see the Scorpions (who were great) and I did give Judas Priest a listen but , I was outa there ....... their Vibe/spririt was dark.

Kudos to you. I walked out of a Super Furry Animals concert a few years ago because of their song Run Christian, Run, and was a huge fan at the time. I haven't listened to any of their stuff since (although I did think they were maybe going a bit stale artistically)

my opinion on this is:

Christian music is the best music to listen to (especially gospel/southern gospel because I grew up with it) but you can find secular music with lyrics that have some christian morals to it. the New Age stuff (Yanni, ect) to me is just music. it might be more to others, especially christians who have come out of the new age movement. But for me I have no background in that and I am firm in my belief of Christ and God.

Like I said in my introduction, I am a kid at heart so to some this might sound weird. I like the Jonas Brothers and a bunch of other artist from the Disney co., I listened to the song "Send it on" and, even though it is a song for the Go Green movement, I found chrisian morals in it. I hadn't really heard it until I was in Africa.

the chorus goes:

"Send it on, on and on
Just one hand can heal another
Be a part, reach a heart
Just one spark starts a fire

With one little action
The chain reaction will never stop
Make it strong
Shine a light, and send it on" ( I hope that it is ok for me to post that)

That is what we are doing and even if you come across a song that might be about something other than christian, listen closely to it. It might be that it has NO christian morals in it, but you never know. Ask God about it, he will show you like he has shown me. I now see music in a whole different light, but there still must be discernment.

Christians should not listen to metal and rap. That's the bottom line!

My favorite metal song ever is about Jesus. But now, I'm going to stop listening to it because some guy on the Internet said so. It's okay that he can't back up his claim.

Seriously though, I really think what the apostle Paul said about eating foods sacrificed to idols applies to music and other forms of entertainment today. If it bothers you and makes you feel guilty, stay away from it. Otherwise, don't worry.

Christians should only listen to metal and rap. Then, God willing, they might actually lighten up.

lol :D

Kid Rock Has an CD called "Rock & Roll Jesus" that could "ease" em into it :)

Ever Hear "God is on our Side" By Bob Dylan?

If you feel that certain music is affecting your walk with Christ, then you should stop listening to it.
Its not clearly spelled out in the Scriptures so we need to make some judgement calls here.

This is the thing we need to do, right here. Whatever a person does that's not of faith, to such person it would be sin. This is one thing in which everyone has different convictions.

That being said, I actually enjoy various forms of music. I have been influenced by it practically my whole life, so it is something that will always stick. I listen to Christian music because it is both uplifting and convicting, simply with the added bonus of the message of God and His Word... and what a blessing it is that it comes in many styles so as to reach a variety of music-loving people according to their tastes. But I also don't see any problem with some mainstream music with moral and positive messages, comedy/novelty songs, and instrumentals with no words whatsoever (so as to concentrate on the artistry of the music alone, and the various pictures it can create to set certain moods). Some of this music may make no mention of Jesus or God, or may not have been recorded by Christian artists, yet it can still be appreciated because of the good messages (and therefore, still outshines all the negative garbage that sadly influences so many people in the wrong direction) and the general talent of the artists themselves. After all, there are many TV programs and movies I watch that are not "Christian" shows with "Christian" actors, but still can be appreciated by Christians because they carry with them their share of values, lessons, and positive messages. Well, the same can also go for music.

Anyway, that's my general two-cents. :)

I have a very vast selection of music. I like a bit of everything. But my most favorite is instrumental. I say the only music I really don't like is hip-hop and rap. I also don't like anything that is too vulgar in nature. Now that is not to say hip-hop and rap is sinful, I just don't really care for it. But like people have said, if you have no shame in listing to it, then there is probably no harm in it just be cautious on what you listen too.

I also really like Micheal W Smith. He has some great songs. My personal favorite is My Place In This World.
