  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This is for all you prior or active service guys

So what are the people like when you get to your first duty station? I just graduated Infantry OSUT and am wondering if there are many christian guys at your unit or is it like OSUT were I was one of the only ones?

Pretty rough. Being a cherry wasn't easy. Just lock it up for everyone and study that 7-8 and soon enough, you'll be accepted. Don't act like a Jackanip, don't act like you are one of the crew and don't act like a highspeed know it all.

Go in humble, willing to learn and respectful. Listen to what people have to say and stay motivated. Be the first to voluntere for details and ask questions.

And above all, keep these principles in mind;

1) Right Place

2) Right Time

3) Right Uniform

4) Right Frame of Mind.

Thanks for the advice. It is much wanted. I go to Ft. Irwin this Friday.

Ft Irwin is (or at least was) a good posting. You going to the 11th ACR? Most everything is walking distance, from the PX to the barracks. You will be about 25 miles or so from town (which is ok - if you ever been to Barstow you know what I mean...).

The transit billits are kept up, several clubs around base, the bowling alley is ok, the hospital is typical - understaffed and overworked. It is a nice base but be warned - it gets real hot.

good luck.

Depends on the unit and the troops - some might accept you right off, most will make you work for their trust and friendship, some (insert eye rolling smiley here) will have their own unique "welcome aboard" initiation in the barracks. Mostly, folks will be polite and want to watch to see who and what you are and see if you pull your own weight.

Be professional, do your job, share in the barracks duties. you need to realize you are at the bottom of the pecking order for a while, until new fresh meat arrives....:D

My squadron (USAF) is about 10% practicing Christian and 3 times that in professing Christians. As a flyer, though, our squadron is all officers. I have had no problems, really, talking about my faith. I had a flight commander that would not put my master's degree on my OPR because I am purusing a Masters of Divinity.

First, don't be nervous about your new station. Listen to the experienced and work hard.

I hope all goes well for you. Thank you for your service.

God bless you,
Dave
