Indeed, and so often, in His Word, there are such depths of meaning behind what on the surface, are such basic, simple statements - so let's keep digging - there's 'Gold in His there hills' ;)

Gen.1:26...and God said, Let Us make man[generic] in Our Image, after Our Likeness....

His Image? We naturally are inclined to imagine Him inhabiting a humungous human-like body. Let's take a closer look at these descriptions and what they mean. "Image - [Hebrew - tselem: a representative figure] - Hey, this is rather awesome isn't it? It's saying that He created us [man/woman] with a nature that is designed to fully reflect Him and His Character, morally and spiritually. That's the purpose of Jesus's first coming - to fully restore us from our fallen, corrupted, marred image state; back to being His children, His co-workers, His unique ambassadors/representatives!

His Likeness?  [Heb. demooth-model]. On a small scale, we are, in our spiritual essence, fashioned and shaped according to His Divine Nature; with the capacity to reflect that Nature to the sin-corrupted world.
