  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your view on wearing a Crucifix vs Regular Cross?

Obviously, most people who would be opposed to wearing a crucifix is because they think it's idolatress or at the very least 'too much' to display.
But some who wear plain crosses do so for a simpler reason, which is to be humble.

I've always been fond of crucifixes.
They were necessary over a plain cross because, historically, a cross was just an object of a death sentence. For them to have significance to Christianity, Christ had to be included.

Actually it's kind of like using prayer beads as... prayer beads. That's what they both are, and I tend to usse whichever is handiest.
All right. My point was that Prayer Beads are just a counting device--apart from how you choose to use them yourself. The Dominican Rosary is supposed to be used in a certain way, have a certain meaning, etc. and all of this because of an allegedly supernatural origin, so using it in another way is actually improper. But of course, most people don't worry about such things and both sets belong to you. To me, it's something like using a small statue of the Virgin Mary as a doorstop. Well, it is just plaster and I do own a conventional doorstop, but still....
