I am a painter/Decorator/vaktmester (retired)

A painter in Norway does: Drywall plastering/mudwork,wallpapering,laying floors and painting. Over here we use the NCS colour system and thats the best I have seen on the planet. Slowely we are changing to acrilic paints and avoiding oil related products.

A vaktmester is like a handyman only with papers. College is a requirment aswell as practical experience. Its not enough that you know how to fix some things here and there. Just about anyone can do that! But you need to be updated in the building laws and standards of the country. In Norway you also need to be updated on EU standards. Updated in modern heating systems and so on.. However having vaktmester papers does not entitle you to overstep boundries like within the electrical trade for obvious reasons:D

I am retired due to health problems, But I still keep some squidoo lenses/blogs where I give out free advice to whomever needs it.

I work as a mental health case manager

I hope you have the resources to do a better job than they do here:pray:

In my district the local psyk dept took on ADHD cases for kids and adults. problem with that is that none of them have enough experience with ADHD people. The result over the past two years is that kids get diagnosed with adhd way too early. Ritlin is the most popular perscription and the system sucks for adults. I was interviewed over a year ago for help with my asbergers/ADHD My psyk said I was one of the worst cases she had seen. She wrote a report saying I needed help for me and my family. Then she went on leave for a year because she was over worked. (She was hired in from Oslo because they could not handle adhd cases). Basicaly they made a mess of it by quick diagnoses and before they knew it everyone looked like they had adhd^_^ (more paperwork less staff)

Anyway it took that psyk department 3 months to aprove the report. and another 6 months to send out the neccesary information to all the right authorities. (reason: they did not read the whole report) My complaining is what changed that. But now it has been over a year and I am still on a waiting list to get help for what the report says is a serious case:confused:

Result: They made my family situation worse instead of better. If my luck is to continue this way, then i will probably get help from some other people who know nothing about ADHD, but may be very skilled in the art of giving out forms with A,B,C questions:sorry:

Hi, I'm still new here and I am wayyyyy under forty, but oh well.

It's hard for me to call you two by your very odd names, so you'll just have to realize that I am speaking to you lol

I'm here in the U.S. BTW, what ever became of that strange, swirling light that you Norway folks encountered some months back? Call me conspiratorial, but I don't think it was Russian missile testing.

Anyway, I am the author of a comical advice website where I (and my partner - Julia Chicken) really do try to help folks.

I was just batting around the idea of Squidoo. Do you think a folk like me could benefit by it?

AMK is my initials. Real name: Alastair. I am scottish, But have lived in Norway for 16 years. I did not hear anything about a swirling light? Where did you hear about it?:confused: Re Squidoo! I like it because its easy to make lenses and link them to main sites or my own. I have a wordpress site too, But I am not over the moon about some of there templates, So I use squidoo lenses and lensroll them instead. Today I am working on a lens about belgian sheep dogs. This lens will be iinked to the main kennel site aswell as all the sites linked to that main site. Other reasons I like squid lenses are the modules. Lots of em pre made for you. All you need to do is add content. On your lens you can also add voting polls, Plexo comments, direct twitter facebook feeds and so on. Means your lens gets out there. Need any advice just ask? :)

Sheesh - I keep hearing about Squidoo - maybe I'll take a look. I am sure I'll need advice LOL

Hey - I have an Old English Sheepdog. Does that count?

As far as the swirly light - they won't let me post a link, but I'll try to give you the whereabouts .... cnn dot com/2009/WORLD/europe/12/10/norway.ufo.light/index dot html

This story didn't make ANY headlines - which is why I am MOST suspicious.

My naighbour has an old english sheep dog too. She is very obediant. My site is for Belgian sheep dogs mostly. You could start a lens for your own dog to begin with though and go from there. But url cannot be the name of your dog if you want people to look for old english sheep dogs? , But you could build a second lens and tttle that one by your dogs name and add it as a feed and a link on your main sheepdog lens. Once you get started just let me know and I will guide you through it. Its even possible to link a free discusion forum to it. I mean a forum you own yourself :)

My profession was teaching.....but I am no longer able to do so due to an accident....

Ah yes, The car accident! My wife is in a wheelchair too. She is waiting to get her legs operated on. one at a time. Don,t know when she will be able to walk again? Next year maybe?:prayer: What is your husbands profesion? I also wonder if you have ever thought of working from your home computer? When I had my leg injury a few years back I started building squidoo lenses just to see how to do it in the beginning:) But since I was not going anywhere for a while, I got hooked on them and built a few more. then I added lots of sale widgets to them via amazon and ebay ect.. Seemingly you get 15% of everything that is bought through your lens. 5% to charity and the rest to yourself. I made$300 in the first year on a lens I did not manage that much. Al profits from my lenses go to charity. Today they don,t make much though for I have ignored them too much. But my point is: At that time it was perfect for me. I got to learn a new and easy way of blogging, Learn about internet traffic ect ect ect. It costs nothing to join or build. I am not saying you should do it? If its passing time you need then this is perfect! But if its making serous cash then that can be done on your pc too and maybe use squidoo lenses to traffic that instead? Ok I will stop^_^

We were missionaries but my husband is also a salesman. We really would like to be back in full time ministry...just waiting for God to direct. I can walk around the house but if we have to go somewhere...the wheelchair is always in the car. I am having surgery in Aug. for them to remove the rods and screws that are in my back...hopefully that will help with the pain in my legs.
I noticed before that you talked about squiddo and lenses....I looked them up to see what you were talking about. It looks interesting but not sure what I would do on them. Something to give thought to for sure. But due to my pain meds --my thoughts don't always stay focused...(which is very irritating!)...but it might be something that I can do.
I finally got my disability hearing and was declared disable so that will help with our income. So we are praising God for that!! :clap:
I enjoy my time on here and talking with others, giving advice etc.....I just have to take breaks and all that but it's all good! God is good and His plan is perfect! :D

I also have a passion for dogs aswell as ADHD. I started a new lens/blog just recently about my belgian shepherd. But my problems are similar and diferent to yours too. I tend to get over excited about making the lens and that excitement may hold for a day or too. Then it sort of tethers away and I forget what I was doing, Thats when I forget about it for a while^_^ for me its just fun I guess:) I tried making one here in CF too, But the format here is rubbish. Its more like a journal entry on here only you have no use of widgets or templates which makes me laugh at CF for even calling it a blog^_^

Hi One day at a time!

AMK makes a good point. And there are lot's of things that you can do from home with your teaching credentials. Tutoring and whatnot immediately pops in my mind.

My husband is Director of Technology for a K12 virtual school and the teachers work from home from their computers.

Even without the affliction you suffer, working from your home is a pretty sweet deal.

I hope your recovery is speedy!

@AMK -----

Oh my! your poor wife! She was in a car accident? When did this occur?

I hope her spirits are up. I am sure, with you around, she gets a pretty good chuckle from time to time.

I wish you both the best and a full recovery for your wife.

Hi Julia...and that is a good idea...something that I can look into. We just recently have seen a website for an online school....our son is going to be a senior this year and we just don't have the resources for him to finish in the Christian school where he has attended since he was in 3rd grade...that and he just doesn't want to go there anymore. They have the name Christian but it is not so much anymore. So we are looking into that online school....or the public school that is close to our home. Only time will tell! :)
I'm not even sure what that would entail....you will have to tell me more about it.

@ODAAT,

The school where my husband works is in Pennsylvania. You must be (I think) a resident of PA or licensed to teach in PA.

I know that the students must be PA residents.

You could use the Google to do a search for "virtual schools" or "virtual cyber schools" to see where you may be able to participate.

What state are you in? I may be able to find something out for you.

We live in GA....but when my husband was putting out resumes he was contacted from a place in VA or NC or somewhere around there that are looking for online pastors. And they have an online school...a 24/7 school...that we thought was very interesting. I want to say that it was being set up by Zondervan or something like that...(like a publishing company)...but I'm not sure if you have to be somewhere in one of those areas or not. We thought it interesting though and my son would love it. Plus I wouldn't mind him being at home since he is my "helper". Since there are many things that I can no longer do...he helps me out and with surgery in Aug...I will be out of commission for at least a few months if not more.
Now these virtual schools are they web cam based where you have to talk and all that? That is part of the reason why I can't teach....I had neck surgery and when they did it they moved my vocal cords and voice box--due to that I have scar tissue so my voice holds out only for about an hour or so and then it starts to disappear! (My husband always says "What a shame!" :ahah:) He is joking since I'm technically not a big talker!
You're sweet to look into that for me....I appreciate it! :D :thankful:

My wife was not in a car acident. I read that on Once apon a times profile! My wife was born with knee and lower spine problems. She was operated on as a youn lass on her spine. Thats better, But not perfect and the problem with her knees is hereditory. one brother, a sister and her mother have it too. Mariann will get two artifical knees if I understand that correctly?

Oh - @AMK I am still struggling with how these forums work. Are they confusing or it it just me? LOL

so, your wife has suffered this her whole life? Hope the surgery is successful!

@ODAAT

is a christian homeschooling organization that might be good for your son.

As you said (about your son's Christian school) many things are changing nowadays. What we used to understand as "Christian" way back when, has certainly changed!

Anyway, I had my children enrolled with CLASS, and it was sufficient enough, I suppose. At least, you could look into it.

As far as working as a teacher from home, take a gander at

It is set up as a "public school" in many states - yours is one of them.

There are other options for you too, I'm sure, but those are the two that I know about.
