  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your problem?

Anyways, it is just a question: has not God given to you everything you want? Has He given to you anything that you do not want? Or has He ever done anything in your life that you did not want Him to do?
So this is not a question for atheists, yes? Otherwise, I'll need to know when you stopped beating your wife.

purposely troll is a redundant phrase. trolling = posting something with little content mainly for the purpose of provoking other posters.

So, is there a catagory for someone who inadvertantly posts something with little content which provokes other posters?

The main gist of Young Earth Creationism is the belief that reality is somehow a reflection of a literal interpretation of the Bible by necessity due to one's religious beliefs. The main tenets of the position include a 6,000-12,000 year old universe and earth, a global flooding event responsible for the earth's geology at ~4000 years ago, and that evolution did not occur despite the evidence.

I recorded the following exchange on 6/13/093,, which might shed some light on what is going one here. The links were broken in the late great database crash, but let the material speak for itself. The names have been changed because the personalities are not important, except as to the choice of the method of communication.
Yesterday at 05:41 AM "Commentator" said this in Post (Link down)
"Creationist",
. . .why do you find it neccesary to tear down instead of building up . . . how come you can't look for a win-win situation and strive to find common ground . . . remember, everything you say about others is really something you are saying about yourself . . . blah blah blah . . .
Not only are you becoming a good skeptic, you are becoming a great hypocrite as well.

Since you seem to have a problem with the refutations give(n) to the opening post, perhaps you could enlighten us to what the "real" issue of this thread should be and how it was not addressed?
Yesterday at 06:55 AM "Creationist" said this in Post (Link down)
In order to do that I would actually have to read the thread. I will take your advise under consideration and give it some thought. But for now my objective is just to have fun with your guys. I like to push your buttons.
(Emphasis mine--Gracchus)

Creationists have no evidence. Their preferred strategies require none. All they do is post the same old fallacies and denials. If refuted they suddenly wander off, multiply unsupported claims, , discover pressing business elsewhere, vanish in a cloud of brimstone-reeking scriptures, or try to drag the thread off topic. ("Creationist" almost always uses this last device. This time he let the truth slip out, which is something seldom seen from him.)
This in no way inhibits them from re-posting their same fallacious arguments on another day, another thread, another forum.
I think they want to believe that all the atheistic evil-utionists will suddenly realize that science is a trick of the devil and start singing Hosannas and Hallelujahs. This would then reassure them that the nonsense which constitutes their world view is verified, and that the Lord is with them in their holy crusade.
When it doesn't happen, they become insecure and afraid. They seldom resort to sarcasm, which requires at least a little wit, but they often become haughty, holy, and righteous.

So you have no complaint at all against God? God has given to you everything you want, and you want all that God has given to you? Why not? I was just wondering, if there is any charge you want to bring against God.

Charge against God?
Most sane people do not sit around waiting for God to give us everything we want (gee, John, you make him sound like Santa Clause) Most people with any sort of ambition and/or drive take charge of their own lives and take the appropriate steps to accomplish their goals.

You know John, I know a group of guys at school who enjoy spelunking (cave explorning). One thing they always bring up is: Making sure to leave a roap back to the opening..they refer to it as their way to "get back to reality without dying in the cave", I would advise you to leave some roap near the opening of your threads.

Two people answered the question. One said they have pretty much gotten everything they wanted. The other one said they have not gotten anything they have wanted out of life.

My guess would be you have always gotten your way. I mean you have pretty much gotten what you want out of life.

[/color]What's going on, John? Could you explain, please?

The question was is it God that non believers have a probem with, or is it christians that non believers have a problem with? For some reason, no one wants to answer the question.

Personally, I'm having trouble believing you can't answer this question yourself. Let me try to reword it, multiple-choice style.

How many non-God-believers would agree with the statement, "I have a problem with God"?

a) 12
b) 7.4 million
c) 0
d) 42

I'll even give you three lifelines.

Several people have answered at least one of your questions, but this isn't the right forum in which to post them.

Ok, for my lifelines I choose the Father, Son & Holy Ghost.

I do not think there are a lot of people who have a problem with God. But I know that there are some that do. Almost as if they think they can run the universe better than He can.

It is when christians and what they believe are constantly comeing under attack. When that happens I always try to figure out is it christianity that people have a problem with, or is it God they have a problem with.

If they do not like christians, so what? We are here to honor God and to bring him Glory.

The problem John, is that to have a problem with God, you have to believe in him.

I don't believe in God, hence I have no problem with him.

My problem is with the people who have fallen for the whole thing, and like to preach and moralise at the rest of us, and those that campaign to remove evolution from our schools, and shoot doctors. Those that brainwash their kids into believing the same tripe as themselves. Those that advise people to go to some con-man masquerading as a faith healer instead of to a doctor. Those that publish deliberately misleading articles on websites tp keep the flock in line. Those that come knocking on my door, preying on nice people who haven't got the nerve to tell them to fornicate off.

That's who I have the problem with John.

But, John, this is really just a cop out. I know it must be really hard to think that all those who oppose the teachings of YEC'ism, Christian and non-Christian alike, do so because of an objective analysis of the evidence (which for the Christians, includes the Scripture). It is much more comfortable to just think that they are hostile to God or hostile to YEC's personally, all due to some internal "issues".

You really need to just face the simple fact that we oppose the YEC teachings because we believe they are wrong. Period. No, deep, hidden bias or issues.

And it is not Christians who are coming under fire. It is not Christianity which is coming under fire. It is not even YEC's which are coming under fire. It is simply YEC'ism which is found lacking.
