  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your local CCM station?

There are three CCM stations in my area (Charlotte, NC): WRCM, the first FM Christian station in the area which has been around for 18 or 19 years or so, "The Light", which is affiliated with Billy Graham ministries, and in the last year or so we picked up a station which carries K-Love. My wife keeps all three of these pre-set on her radio. Personally, I can't bear listening to any of them. Every other song is either Third Day, Mercy Me or Casting Crowns. The "family friendly" format has simply ruined Christian radio (and pretty much ruined Christian music in general). I have "The Message" as one of my pre-set channels on my XM radio, and will occasionally stop on it if David Crowder*Band or Newsboys are playing. Otherwise I don't bother. There's too much good music out there to spend my time listening to the same old, same old that CCM has become.

When in Charlotte (wife has family in the area), I find that I listen to New Life 91.9 the most. 106.9 the Light tends to play a greater mixture, and has a lot more preaching than 91.9. I also noticed that within the past year or so, K-Love has set up a station at 94.1 for the Charlotte area. K-Love has been operating out of the Greensboro and Raleigh-Durham areas, however, for at least seven or eight years.

KJJK (1020 AM, Fergus Falls, Minnesota) was known as "Groovy 1020" broadcasting an oldies music format (Beatles, Monkees) until it became "Family 1020" in 2010 broadcasting CCM via the Salem Communications Corporation.

From 2000-2012, KSOU-AM, Sioux Center, Iowa, was known as Faith Radio 1090 playing its own computer-generated Christian Contemporary format. KSOU-AM became Classic KSOU in 2012 with it’s core music being the top hits of the 60s and 70s (Beatles, Monkees).

Go figure.
Starting on May 6, KJJK radio will be changing to “The Game” and carrying all-sports programming.

Go figure.

I live in the 2nd most populated city in the U.S., but there is only one Christian music station.
I never listen to it, though, because I don't like the music on the playlist. (Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, etc.)

Just wanted to start a thread to see who your listening to.

In my area, there are really no stations that play Christian music. There is one station -- but that is almost a purely Christian 'talk' station.

I'm in NYC, and in a city with 2-3 million people, go figure that there's no Christian radio stations. One of my friends from church did tell me about KLove, so I downloaded the app on my iPad, and that's where I listen to music. I also have Spotify and iTunes radio, both of which have CCM and Gospel channels, so that's good. And then there's Pandora...just type in an artist or a song and it'll set up a station with that artist's music as well as music from other artists similar to the ones you like. The beauty of Pandora is that if you get sick of a song, you can elect to not hear it for 30 days.

Well, the Charlotte area has lost "New Life 91.9". The owners sold out to "KLove", so Christian radio choices in the area will now be limited to "KLove" and "The Light". I can't say that this will affect me in any way, as I don't listen to any of these on a regular basis, but it does bother me that KLove seems to be on a take-over scheme to wipe out its' competitors. "New Life", while considered by many to be one of the top Christian stations in the country, was anything but adventurous and catered only to the soccer mom audience, which also happens to be Klove's main target audience. He who ownes the most stations wins, I guess. Meanwhile, listeners are still subjected to the same dull, 20 or 30 songs all day long. Makes me more and more thankful for Pandora.
