In reference to the thread's topic, my name is John. Quick google search brought out the below. Pretty cool stuff I have to say to myself.

English form of Iohannes, the Latin form of the Greek name Ιωαννης (Ioannes), itself derived from the Hebrew name יוֹחָנָן (Yochanan) meaning "YAHWEH is gracious".

What I have learned from this is that not only what my name is in Hebrew & what it means but as a Child of God to Wrestle With God is not actually to fight with him but to seek him with our hearts through prayer, don't be afraid to Wrestle With God because that's what he wants from you, he wants you to wrestle with him because he loves you and wants to give you what your heart desires. God wants us to fight for our blessings because in his eyes we are worth it. May God have mercy on all of you, give you peace and fill your hearts with love & joy. God bless ☺️

I see authenticity has already been discussed. I remember back in the early days of FB I used a site that supposedly gave my Hebrew name - mine was Yisraela too, which I liked but I'm not sure there was any real connection there.

My name "Anastasia" is the feminine form of "anastasis" which means "Resurrection" in Greek, given to me at baptism. I rather like that too. Christianity has a long history of naming people for significant events, virtues, persons, etc.

Once the most common name for men. Other versions of the same name are Ian, Jan, and Johan.

To a degree - yes. But none of us hear or act 100% in line with HIS leading. Which is why we need to be mindful of these things.

Of course we also need to be open to HIM overriding our efforts and changing it up on us at the last second.

The Old Testament was prior to Jesus Christ's fulfillment. During that time and age, people (as they are today) sinned against God and attempted to live according to God's law in the OT. There were sacrifices like crazy in an attempt to make up for the sin. God sent Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice and atonement for our behalf - There is no point to the former sacrifices as they have now been paid with the perfect sacrifice from Jesus. We cannot obtain grace/salvation through works but only through submission to Christ. The New Testament doesn't contradict the Old Testament, it fulfills the law through Christ's Love. It is a very confusing concept but the law is till in effect, those in Christ are under a covenant outside of the OT law through Christ's love.

Well now it gets interesting, doesn't it, since there's a bottom line here? And that bottom line is "will" and Whose "will" supersedes and Who gets the glory in all of it.

True. But when I said the name, I meant the fact that the Resurrection is fundamental:

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

I was having an entirely civilised conversation with the OP about which Hebrew name was closest in meaning to hers. We came to the conclusion that it was "Sarah." Why do you object to that?

It can be a little confusing, and why I ask...

Is that to say the commandments are not still in affect, and just the other laws that are in no way connected to the commandment are not?

Are you Jewish? If not, then you have no obligation to the commandments given to Israel.

God and the Jerusalem Council DID give commandments to Gentiles though. Are those null and void because 'New Testament?'
