My mom just lost her job some months back. It's been really hard to keep functioning sine that happened. She was fired from a teaching job at Roanoke Valley CHRISTIAN Schools. We trusted these people for 20+ years.

While there are a ton of Christian songs that give me comfort in dark hours (one that comes immediately to mind is MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine"), but there are a few secular songs that were...shall we say, "there for me" when I needed them:

"Stepping Stone" by Lari White
"Bring On the Rain" by Jo Dee Messina
"Survivors" by Collin Raye
"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion
"Muddy Water" by Trace Adkins
"Spirit In the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum (and yes, I remember when it was a NEW song)
"Help Pour Out the Rain (Lacey's Song)" by Buddy Jewell
"By My Side" from the Godspell soundtrack (another childhood favorite)
"Everything's Alright" from the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack (ditto)

"Talmidim (The Servants)" - For Today
"Distant Shores" - Five Iron Frenzy (This has a line that goes "If mercy falls upon the broken and the poor, dear Father, I will see you there on distant shores." I have to remember that every once in a while.)
"Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" - Underoath (disclaimer: this one has screaming at the end)
"Grace and Love" - Kutless
"For The Moments I Feel Faint" - Relient K
"You're Not Alone" - Saosin

My aunt is going through an extremely difficult time right now and I want to make a cd for her to give her some encouragement and keep her spirit up, and I'd love some suggestions. What do you listen to when you're down?

I listen to anything that has positive lyrics about our Lord.

A song I am thinking of....is really a song I wrote in way back in Oct 2000....that song will live with me forever...because it touched so many peoples hearts, it's funny because that song is still aired on radio and selling world wide here in 2010....somehow not only did this song get burned into my heart...but it's one the most requested songs in concerts that I've ever written ...That song is called... "Have You Ever Been So Lonely " - recorded by me GW Williams.
No I am not bragging about this either....This song just lives on, I know many may have of you have heard this song before, and still many of the younger kids have not heard it....but....
....For some reason that song never leaves you....and I am told by many people that whenever I sing that song it's like I was singing a song of thier own personal lives....the words just move people I guess......

In my life I've written and recorded a lot of songs that are better....but never a song that is so requested and reached out and touched so many peoples hearts.

All I can say is when I am all alone, and it's a dark rainy night and no one is around, the words of that song still run through my heart .

Thanks GW Williams
