Isn't the concept of wealth comparative?

Even some of the poorest people in America today are as wealthy in many respects as noblemen in European medieval society. At one time, owning books meant that you were very wealthy. Owning a small library meant that you were probably a King. And so forth.

Wealth is the ability to create money when you have no money and keep money once you make it. Wealth is the attitude, mindset, knowledge, education, and experience which allows someone to see possibilities and excute them into profit.

People can have a high income, but unless they know how to obtain and manage assets they will never be wealthy.

That's a very nonstandard meaning of wealth. At least, I've never encountered it before.

Maybe if the income is a net income. If you make that much and still manage to screw things up enough that you live from paycheck to paycheck, I don't know if I consider that wealthy.

Perhaps another way it could be said is that you aren't wealthy until it doesn't become a big concern how much you make.

I thought it presumed the scope of the poll was monetarily.

Wealth is the total mount of assets minus debts. It includes investments, retirement, benefits from insurance and income... it includes land and other real property.

To ask whether a particular amount of income if wealth, misses all of the aspects that make up wealth.
If I made $125,000 a year I would consider myself wealthy since I only have about $50,000 in debts.

I expect that 95% of Americans would say yes.

That says more about how Americans respond than what wealth is. What if it takes $120,000 of capital and investment to make that $125,000?

Either way you look at it I still would say no. People assume that a high income means yours better of finacially however, the cost of living ( at least where I am) and lifestyle makes most in that income range no where near wealthy.

Many two earner families will have an income > $125K, yet due to high mortgage, credit card payments, and other spending will have little savings. They may be "house rich," but have scant cash reserves or other investments. Real monetary wealth, IMO, means non-real estate, liquid assets, and little debt.
