  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Discussion question... :)

What does it mean to trust your spouse?

Does it mean that you know they won't have sex with someone else? Lust after someone else? Damage the relationship? Put themselves in a compromising situation?

How would you define the 'trust' you have in your marriage?

Trust to me means exactly what you stated above. I completely trust him, hence I don't worry about any of the things you mentioned, plus damaging jealousy is never an issue.

yep,I 100% don't worry either. We just have that between us,we satisfy each other. God has given us a great marriage(we have our problems) but we don't go looking either.

Trust is being able to rely on someone in any situation. Examples..."I trust you not to cheat on me" "I trust you to take care of me" "I trust you to always tell me the truth in all things" etc... I know for me trust in a relationship was always associated with cheating. I realize now that it involves so many other things. Trusting my husband means being able to depend on him in all things in all ways. It sounds so simple when you try to write it out, but it goes so much deeper than never being told a lie. Does that make sense?

All of the above :) It's being confident that your spouse won't cheat or damage the relationship in another way. It's also knowing you can count on them to be there for you through thick and thin and be truthful.

I totally agree with you. I think trusting your husband is not just about knowing they won't cheat on you, it's more than that. It's knowing you can count on your husband in any given situation to act to the best of his ability. (Hope that made sense :) ).

I think that trust involves knowing. Trust is not a blind hope that this other person will do X. It is a quiet confidence that based upon knowing someone well, you know what motivates them and what their values are and have assurance that they will or won't do X.

At the same time I totally trust my husband, I know that he is human and I know that he makes mistakes. He is not sinless. So sometime, in some way, certainly without intending to, he has/is going to hurt me. It may not be in a major way, but it happens. And I think that's where the trust really kicks in! I KNOW that the hurt was not what he intended. I know that as bad as I feel, he feels worse! I know that I will forgive him - not with the snap of my fingers, but I will work to get to that point as quickly as I can.

For me, trust involves all of that.

This is the biggest issue between my husband and me. I trust him 100%. He can go anywhere and with anyone and its ok with me. He on the other hand has a problem with me going places with certain friends I have. His reason is he doesnt trust them. I say you dont have to trust them, you have to trust ME. He thinks that is just my being unreasonable.
