:o I went to a church last wednesday, it seemed like a pretty nice church, then I attended again this morning and I seen things I have never seen before. They started singing and sang a few songs then got to this one and they kept repeating this verse over and over and they started screaming and hollering and the preacher got this bottle out I guess annointing oil? and started putting his hands on them and they started fainting everywhere. This one lady walked up to the front took the microphone and started talking to us like she was Jesus, Instead of saying Him, she was saying I...
Then my daughter said at the childrens church they ate baby food through a straw? Please help me out there. Im confused.

What denomination is this?

They started singing and sang a few songs then got to this one and they kept repeating this verse over and over...

There are alot of gospel songs that have repeating verses.

...and they started screaming and hollering

Again this is common in certain denominations where the members may feel led to do this.

...and the preacher got this bottle out I guess annointing oil?

This is also common. Annointing the head was used as a symbol of empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

...and started putting his hands on them and they started fainting everywhere.

Once again common, depending on the denomination of the church.

This one lady walked up to the front took the microphone and started talking to us like she was Jesus, Instead of saying Him, she was saying I...

This is also commo...wait, no it's not! During the OT times messengers(angels) from God would speak as though they were God (saying "I" instead of "Him") because God sent that messenger with His authority. Do you believe that the woman was sent to talk to you with His authority. Not for me to say but I do know that because of Jesus, God is able to speak directly to us. More precisely, to our spirit. No need for a messenger.

Then my daughter said at the childrens church they ate baby food through a straw? Please help me out there.

I'm lost on that one.

If you feel uncomfortable at the church then leave. I left my old chrch because they were very traditional. Yes, God did set up traditions (in the OT) but only so they could be a reminder of what He has done for us. Those were holidays anyways. We can't get caught up in the traditions of praise & woship because the tradition starts to become more important than God. Let God lead you to the right church.

God Bless!

when I looked them up they were listed under Nondenomination and Ive been to non denomination churches before and they were NOT like that. They keep singing this song freedom and they kept repeating that verse forever it seemed. we started at 10, sang about 4 songs but when we got to the 4th one thats when they kept repeating that verse and people screaming. The baby food thing, I didnt understand because they must of called the kids that didnt want to do it chicken because my daughter said some of it was nasty and that some of the kids were chicken, Ive nver heard her use that expression before so they must of said that?

There in lies the problem with "nondenominational" churches. Without a hierarchy and set structure it can become, and often becomes, a free for all. In my city, Cleveland, there was an incident when a "pastor" performed an "exorcism" on a little boy and ended up killing him. He suffocated him with a pillow. It is very easy to go from zeal to fanatisism. If you are looking for a church I would try some larger denominations...I myself am partial to the episcopal church :)

I attend a non-denominational church (The Word Church - also in Cleve, Oh) and it is anything but a free-for-all. There is plenty of structure and order. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your church but please don't judge other churches from that.

like I said I went to another non denominational church, and I liked them. This church over here said Galatians chapter 1 told them they had the right to do the things they were. I think its great people getting excited about Jesus, but It just wasnt for me, I guess.. I am going to try a baptist church I guess, see what I can figure out from there. I took my husbands cousin daughter with me and when they started doing their stuff she started getting sick to her stomach and head started making her dizzy. I had to send her out of the church.

You went to a charismatic church. Sounds like a very charismatic church.

I haven't gone to one, just hung out with the Chi Alpha people a little bit my first year of college. Overall, fairly decent people.

I go to a non-denominational, non-charismatic church. It's Biblically based. On the other side of the spectrum, you had the church with the crazy "exorcist". So a label isn't enough, you need to find out what the church actually teaches.

BTW, there are hundreds of different kinds of Baptist denominations, too. They range from ultra-legalistic to decent. Just pray for a good, Bible believing church. I am doing that for you now.

Jayz,

Without a set doctrine or anyone to answer to it can easily be seen, in many cases, how zeal turns into fanaticism, which then results in false actions. This is why creeds were written and catacisms put together; to avoid false teachings and false actions. Also, I'm not insulting you or your church I'm simply describing a phenomenon among many small autonomous churches ussually in rural areas. Is there a hierarchy for non-denom. churches? Perhaps like a board of directors from several churches in different areas or are they pretty much just autonomous?

Also, twistedsketch brought up a good point, if there are "hundreds" of different kinds of baptist churches then who is watching to make sure they are on the up and up? The flock? This is what I am talking about, and it is not strictly about non-denom churches but churches that are doing off the wall stuff. It just so happens that it occurs mostly within completely autonomous churches.

I go to a church that is charismatic in the sense that it believe in spiritual gifts for today etc....but this sounded very odd and disorderly to even my. Be careful when using a word like that...make sure there is a level of understanding in how that word is defined. IMO, that church sounds odd...did they even have a message from the Bible or were they just hopping all over the place?

For the first hour they did all that weird stuff and then 40 mins of a message from Galatians ch1 that gave them the right to do what they were doing, then back to what they did the first hour and repeating that same verse from Freedom.....

I went and Seen Perry Stone Sunday night and people fainted, spoke in tounges and I thought it was wonderful, It was done different, it didnt seem weird.

Well I would advise you to listen to your gut...if you felt uncomfortable at the first place then it just most likely isn't the church for you then.
