The definition of NEPHESH, the word translated "soul" is found in the Hebrew lexicon, or by a study of how the word is used in the text.
You don't find the definition inside your head!
Most of the definitions given by people on this thread are their own invented definitions.
The definition of "soul" (NEPHESH) is not what you "think' it is or what your denomination says it is. It is not "mind" or "spirit." These are different Greek and Hebrew words which do NOT mean the same as NEPHESH or
PSUCHE.
To understand the Bible it is necessary to DEFINE WORDS CORRECTLY. To do this one must follow the RULES AND REGULATIONS pertaining to that study. One must have and use the reference books associated with this.
In reading the Bible, it is necessary to observe the CONTEXT, and it also should not be necessary to say that INDIVIDUAL, INDEPENDENT study should be done. One should not depend on what some "commentator" says, no matter how "popular" that person might be.
God will never ask you what someone else believes.
