Yes, the Rainbow was used as an symbol for the convanent between God and Noah that he would never again flood the earth. I would suspect it is realistic, since God has yet again flooded the earth, and there ares still rainbows. However, I fail to see why this fact needs to be scientific, it is not a matter of science.
No, actually, it is a matter of science. Because, if we fail to sustain the agreement, the sign should disappear. And most importantly, you claim that no rainbow existed before Noah. This is a very big claim and sorry but it is not scientific.

So, How can you believe that?

Did I claim that no rainbow existed before Noah? I don't remember making such a claim. The Rainbow was a sign that God would never again flood the Earth and everytime the rainbow appears God will remember that covanent. He didn't set any qaulifications nor limitations on that promise. He did not make a covent that said "if you do this I will promise not to do X". Rather he said HE won't again flood the earth, he didn't put any stipulations on mankind that would viod that covanent by anything we did. In fact this type of covanent is very common of God to make thoughout the Bible.

the scientific side of this comes from the firmament that was broken during the flood. the firmament was a layer of water that surrounded the earth, giving it a "greenhouse affect." rainbows come from light refracted by droplets of water(rain) in the air. Since there was a firmament before the flood, there was no rain, which also made a global flood seem impossible to the people of Noah's day.

Does that explain it some?

Ok, I'm going to take a shot at the Gilgamesh question. Gilgamesh is an example of how many cultures have a world wide flood story. In almost every culture around the world, there is some type of flood story (I know in Japan, China, American Indians, etc.) As for Gilgamesh being before the OT...Moses wrote the first five books, so the Gilgamesh story was probably written before that. I have read parts of it, and to my understanding, Gilgamesh goes on a journey in search of eternal life. The flood has many evidences (fossilized seashells found on the tops of mountains), and the cultural story that appears around the world I believe is another evidence. I believe the flood happened, so it only makes sense that the story was passed down through generations and cultures and was included in the epic of Gilgamesh. They all reference the same event, just in a different way. The Bible was inspired by God, so Moses wrote what God told him, and we see the Bible as the most accurate account.

The old Testament states that the rainbow is a sign between God and the people.

So, how scientific is it?
How realistic is it?
How can you explain that?

King Regards...

I can't explain God....and I'm not going to try. Whether the rainbow is scientific or not frankly doesn't matter to me.....I take it by faith. Realistic....well, look in the sky - during or after it rains - you WILL see a rainbow because of God's promise not to destroy all life on the earth again by flood....ever.

Faith, that gift that is given to us by God, is what you need, my friend. My prayer is that you will accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. That's really all that matters.....in the long run.:prayer:
