Actually the psalmist, speaking of the onmipresence of God, also said "if i make my bed in Hell, thou art there"
here again we run into the issue that there are two different things being talked about by the english word "hell".

What david talks about in the psalms is the underworld, or the place of the dead, in hebrew "sheol". This is different than the eternal lake of fire. The new testament tells us that at the end even hell (the one David references as Sheol) is thrown into the lake of fire.. so its not the same place.

God's omnipresense still might mean that the lake of fire is not beyond his presense.. however that specific scripture isn't talking about the lake of fire.

I just finished watching a series on Word Pictures on The Sovereignty of God. I have to admit that I was pretty impressed by what I saw and heard.

Personally, before I was saved I had NO interest in God because I was running/ruining my own life very well, thank you. Fortunately I had a good husband who put up with me. :) After he died, I had an intense desire to insure I would end up in heaven with him. I began to search out God and ended up saved by the blood of Jesus. But God put that desire in me or I would have ended up raging in the wind as so many other widows/widowers do. So God softened my heart and I searched and Jesus found me. I was saved but not due to anything I did or any merit on my part. Still trying to figure things out - just call me an elect messianic for now! :D
Awe, I'm sorry to hear about your husband. That had to be traumatic.
It always interests me how we can turn soft or bitter when crisis hits us. Thank God He was working in you in that way.

I was like you too, I had no interest in being Christian when I was living life my way. Deep down I wanted not to be sinning, but then the sin was just too alluring to give it up for me.

i agree with this. However, i do wonder according to the parable of the rich man and lazarus, exactly when eternal punishment begins. The rich man was in terror and suffering before the resurrection.

But on the whole i agree wiht you

Still imnipresence would imply He is still in the lake of fire as well. this doesnt neccessarily say it would 'hurt' Him or effect Him, and being God, i sincerely doubt it would

Hi Time2BCounted,

You explained that excellently, I couldn't think of anything I could add or take away from it.

God bless.

Hi Good to see you here

The scripture imho, gives us a clear purpose for hell, and really only one as far as i can see.

It was prepared as a place to imprison satan and the fallen angels, which implies it didnt exist before the fall, though this second point is a point we cant be dogmatic on.

Matthew 25:41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Mankind however, not only gave his dominion over satan and everything on earth TO satan, he also chose not to follow the command of God, subjecting himself to satan. By subjecting himself, he became satans subject. He became satan's posession. Therefore Hell, which was intended for satan and his angels, becomes the eternal abode of all who refuse God's way out.

I believe most here would agree this is the conservative biblical view.

Believing of course extends beyond a confession one day that Jesus is the Son of God, the Lamb that has come to take away the sins of the world and repenting and opening the door of your heart. Believing is an ongoing action word.

Jesus said, "And why do you call me Lord and do not the things that I say?" Luke 6:46

And "If you love me, keep my commandments"
John 14:15

and "
He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." John 14:21

What were His commandments?

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Matthew 22:37-39

The two commandments Jesus said, are the same as the ten, He just broke them down as after giving them He said "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:40

"Love the Lord God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength" (first four of the ten) and love your neighbor as yourself." (last six if the ten).

The first one is our vertical relationship with God and the last one is our horizontal relationship with man.

If we believe Him, we will love Him. If we love Him, we will follow Him.

"My Sheep know my voice and I know them, and they follow me."

So, it is a lot more than a prayer one day, or the mouthing of the words, " I believe" if you live until the next day that is, and the next and the next as long as you shall live.

God bless.

Dude, you asserted beliefs without citing scripture.

I called you out and you were unable to respond. Go ahead and assert your doctrine- I'll enjoy running circles around you.

Now, I asked you a question:
Believing in Christ in terms of what saves you?

Answer it.

Amen and well said

One thing i note too when confronting false doctrine and cults and such. Often we have this 'love' used against us and we are told not to judge as though we arent allowed common sence.

Yes we ARE to love our neighbor in an ongoing way, but also we cannot drop 'thou shalt love the lord thy God'. This includes His word and His doctrine. We will only love Him if His word abides IN us and we follow His commands as you point out so well

Amen, and this verse ties them all together (proving we are under obligation to adhere to God's moral law THRU LOVE)
Romans 13:9
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Is it just me? Or does anyone see a problem with the spirit this post is created in?
"I'll enjoy running circles around you"???
"I called you out and you were unable to respond"?
"Answer it"?

Is that how you talk to your fellow family in Christ that are SUPPOSEDLY on the same side with you?

SA, I'd be real careful about the motive behind your debating. It sounds more to me like you're here to prove yourself RIGHT or take pride in thinking you "got somebody on the ropes".... as if to trap or catch people in error & then pounce on them.

I take serious issue with that attitude in debate. It looks hostile and arrogant.
