  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the Popes relationship with God?

CHRIST REFUSED TO RECOGNISE ANY POPE AMONG HIS DISCIPLES

I don't like reading anti-Catholic websites, but I humored you... the above quote stands out to me. There is not doubt from the NT, that St. Peter is the head of the Apostles.

Whenever they were named, Peter headed the list (Matt. 10:1-4, Mark 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16, Acts 1:13); sometimes the apostles were referred to as "Peter and those who were with him" (Luke 9:32). Peter was the one who generally spoke for the apostles (Matt. 18:21, Mark 8:29, Luke 12:41, John 6:68-69), and he figured in many of the most dramatic scenes (Matt. 14:28-32, Matt. 17:24-27, Mark 10:23-28). On Pentecost it was Peter who first preached to the crowds (Acts 2:14-40), and he worked the first healing in the Church age (Acts 3:6-7).

It is Peter’s faith that will strengthen his brethren (Luke 22:32) and Peter is given Christ’s flock to shepherd (John 21:17). An angel was sent to announce the resurrection to Peter (Mark 16:7), and the risen Christ first appeared to Peter (Luke 24:34). He headed the meeting that elected Matthias to replace Judas (Acts 1:13-26), and he received the first converts (Acts 2:41). He inflicted the first punishment (Acts 5:1-11), and excommunicated the first heretic (Acts 8:18-23). He led the first council in Jerusalem (Acts 15), and announced the first dogmatic decision (Acts 15:7-11). It was to Peter that the revelation came that Gentiles were to be baptized and accepted as Christians (Acts 10:46-48).

Peter was the leader of the Apostles. Jesus made Peter the head of his chruch in Matthew 16:18-19

"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Hello Catholics,
I had a few questions about the Pope.
Whats his relationship with God?
Does he have direct connection with God?
How does God communicate to the pope?
Does the pope speak for God?
Whats your doctrine say about the difference between the popes will and Gods will, and is there a method of knowing which is which?
Are all the pope choices supported by God?
What is it about popes that make millions of people go see him where ever he goes?

Do popes sin?

If I sound ignorant and stupid about it, thats because I dont know much about catholic belief or the Pope.:priest: :priest: :priest:
My best friend is a Catholic, and I am a friend to many, but I think I would be wrong to not point out in Matthew 16:18, when Jesus is speaking to the disciples, He uses two distinct words for rock when teaching about upon what rock He would build His church. Strong's reference 4073 and 4074 in Greek. Since Peter's name means rock, Jesus was being anecdotal in identifying Himself as the foundation of the Church and Peter as a rock. Along with the scripture 1 Timothy 2:5, it seems evident to me that Jesus Christ is the corner stone and foundation of the Church. He is our cornerstone and the rock of salvation. The Pope is a good man and has done good things throughout the world, encouraging peace and good will towards all men, and there is nothing wrong with tradition. His office is a leadership role in an organized effort to see the will of God done on earth, and I do not wish to diminish any of the love and respect people have towards him. However, I do have to say that we all have equal rights of entrance before God in prayer and in supplication.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter (4074), and upon this rock (4073) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

I would agree with one of the previous posters that said

Hi, RP. :wave:

I saw a television special about Pope John Paul II (He's the current pope, celebrating his 25th anniversary as Pope.)

One of his closest chief advisers was explaining to the camera (interview style) that one day he asked the Pope, "Why do so many young people, teenagers, have so much love for you [since the Pope is an old man]?

The Pope smiled and said to him in a most humble and happy way,
"It is the Holy Spirit."
