Introduction to the Devout Life by St Francis de Sales. It has, over the last few months, went a long long way towards helping heal my heart and move me forward in faith, and I am grateful for it.

On a purely secular (but still very useful!) level, the other most practical, fun, helpful book I've read is "Clueless in the Kitchen" by Evelyn Raab. The recipes and humour in it are great and so welcome! Thanks to that book, I am able to feed myself. ;)

Oh wow....

I'd have to say, talking in "useful" terms, that the most useful book I have ever read is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Second to the Bible, it's my favorite book because I know it's going to tell me what Catholic Orthodoxy is and isn't.

Plus, it reads like it was written under Heavenly inspiration, LOL!!

Mine is 'The Sinner's Guide' by Venerable Louis of Granada. I've read tons, simple to more advanced, but this simple guide has been the greatest help to me in ordering my spiritual life.

No choosing any part of the Word of God.

Ahem. ^_^

DiligentlySeekingGod..... I think it's a GIVEN that the Bible will be the most useful, practical set of books we all have. We're probably looking for resources OUTSIDE the Bible that have really impacted us... :)

The Wind In the Willows by Kenneth Grahame .

This was the first book I enjoyed reading , and it taught me that reading can be fun as well as informative .

As an adult it has to be the Documents of the Second Vatican Council .
