The human body has been defined as being a system, and a system is defined as being multiple mechanisms working together as a complex whole according to a set of rules.
But what is the biological purpose to life if the total number of biological mechanisms must be in order for an organism to be complete as a complex whole from the format of its DNA instruction set?
Is it to ingest food all day long like a caterpillar? Or should humans be sleeping all day like a sloth?

The number one biological function that is required for any organism to stay alive is breathing, because this not only provides the organism with oxygen for metabolism but also to equalise the atmospheric pressures surrounding the organism as well.
Which means that an organism has the sole biological purpose to keep breathing and every biological function apart from this is in support of this main function.

And if there's one thing that accelerates the decay of organic matter, it would be oxygen, as organic matter will oxidize if left out in the open atmosphere and the process of equalising the pressure within an organism's cell via the cell wall needs to be accounted for before a cell could ever form under atmospheric pressure.
Life began according to the scriptures by the act of God breathing life into man, and not just by God creating him from the dust.
Which means that life is defined as breathing and not just as a blob of chemicals.

Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Life is not defined as breathing. Though is has no definitive definition.

The Bible repeatedly refers to the "breath of life." Many Christians believe that is when humans get souls. Although others cl;aim we already had souls before the embryonic stage, the only evidence of this is the moment John leapt in Elizabeth's uterus - the result of her being washed over by the Holy Spirit.

Ah...That's the spiritual breath of life.

Mentioned 3 times.

The scientific definition of a human is a primate. And the scientific definition of a mammal is an animal. So the problem is with pseudo interpretations based on false knowledge, because man is not a primate or a mammal as a primate has not been observed walking around so the interpretations are based on theory and not science.

Mankind is distinct from the animals because each person has been endowed with a conscience, with which to reason from. And this is a standard feature for people and not for the apes. Meaning that there is a massive distinction between apes and humans which is defined as a physical barrier preventing apes from being held accountable for their actions in retrospect to a human who is endowed with a conscience to understand right from wrong.
And it will be the conscience that defines human equality and not what race of primate you believe you derived from.

Mankind will not be defined by the pseudo term mammal because the term mammal is only in reference to one aspect of a milk producing gland, and the term mammal does not take into account any differences when the differences between a whale and a possum a vast in nature.

If one is to understand what the human is then they must resort to their endowed conscience to explain the existence of the conscience, because the definition of conscience is based on ones ability to decide fact from fiction, a truth from a lie and to decide yes or no with. And because having a conscience is a requirement before the law as each person has an obligation to be obedient under the law according their conscience, while an animal or thing is described as having no legal obligations because of their lack of conscience which is a physical restriction, and not a physical impairment

Define natural person:
The term “natural person” refers to a living human being, with certain rights and responsibilities under the law. By contrast, a “legal person,” or an “artificial person,” is a group of people that is considered by law to be acting as a single individual. Both natural and legal persons are entitled to sue other parties and sign contracts. They can also both be on the receiving end of a lawsuit. To explore this concept, consider the following natural person definition. - Online Legal Dictionary

The Linnean Society website - scientific racism
One of the origins of scientific racism can be traced to Linnaeus’ work on the classification of man, which had devastating and far-reaching consequences for humanity.
Linnaeus’ work on the classification of man forms one of the 18th-century roots of modern scientific racism. This page aims to look at Linnaeus’ works in detail, both printed and in manuscript, to trace the development of an idea which became fundamental in the history of anthropology and has had devastating and far-reaching consequences for humanity, including the dehumanisation of non-Europeans and justification of evils like slavery and indigenous genocide.

By the 10th edition of Systema naturae, Linnaeus switched the order in which the varieties appear yet again, and chose to place Americanus first, possibly influenced by ideas of the ‘noble savage’. One variety never varied in this hierarchy, however: Africanus consistently remained at the bottom of the list. Moreover, in all editions, Linnaeus’ description of Africanus was the longest, most detailed and physical, and also the most negative.

Scientific racism - Wikipedia
Scientific racism, sometimes termed biological racism, is the pseudoscientific belief that empirical evidence exists to support or justify racism (racial discrimination), racial inferiority, or racial superiority. Historically, scientific racism received credence throughout the scientific community, but it is no longer considered scientific. Dividing humankind into biologically distinct groups is sometimes called racialism, race realism, or race science by its proponents.

Modern scientific consensus rejects this view as being irreconcilable with modern genetic research.

Scientific racism employs anthropology (notably physical anthropology), anthropometry, craniometry, and other disciplines or pseudo-disciplines, in proposing anthropological typologies supporting the classification of human populations into physically discrete human races, some of which might be asserted to be superior or inferior to others. Scientific racism was common during the period from the 1600s to the end of World War II. Since the second half of the 20th century, scientific racism has been criticized as obsolete and discredited, yet has persistently been used to support or validate racist world-views, based upon belief in the existence and significance of racial categories and a hierarchy of superior and inferior races.

Social Darwinism - Wikipedia
Social Darwinism declined in popularity as a purportedly scientific concept following the First World War, and was largely discredited by the end of the Second World War—partially due to its association with Nazism and partially due to a growing scientific consensus that it was scientifically groundless.

Alternatives to Darwinian evolution - Wikipedia
By the start of the 20th century, evolution was generally accepted by biologists but natural selection was in eclipse. Many alternative theories were proposed, but biologists were quick to discount theories such as orthogenesis, vitalism and Lamarckism which offered no mechanism for evolution. Mutationism did propose a mechanism, but it was not generally accepted. The modern synthesis a generation later claimed to sweep away all the alternatives to Darwinian evolution, though some have been revived as molecular mechanisms for them have been discovered.

What is system and example?
The definition of a system is a set of rules, an arrangement of things, or a group of related things that work toward a common goal. An example of a system are the laws and procedures of a democratic government. ... An example of a system is all the organs that work together for digestion.

What is the main purpose of rule-based system?
In computer science, a rule-based system is used to store and manipulate knowledge to interpret information in a useful way. It is often used in artificial intelligence applications and research. Normally, the term rule-based system is applied to systems involving human-crafted or curated rule sets.

What are the 12 systems of the body?
These different body systems include the skeletal, nervous, muscular, respiratory, endocrine, immune, cardiovascular/circulatory, urinary, integumentary, reproductive, and digestive systems.

This kind of begs the question, what is the most important biological function of non-human life, if we draw a line between human and everything else. (I think there is a differentiating line). Adaptation, I think is the defining characteristic. Rocks and water don't adapt, life does. Humans have another unique feature - rather than adapting to our environment, we often prefer adapting our environment to us if and when we can. I don't think other things do that.

I'm not sure that's always a really good trait though, on a whole bunch of different levels.

There are species that alter the environment to suit themselves.

Well thanks for holding your breath there I just needed to go outside and inflate the tires on my car, because if the pressure leaks out there will be nothing on God's green Earth that can top it up for me naturally.

And that is because the difference in pressure was caused by design and not by chance. Which is the same for breath because if you couldn't exhale you would inflate like a balloon and burst. But because the lungs are designed to equalize the pressure of blood vessels it will mean that the respiratory system was initially designed. And there are no examples of a breathing apparatus that forms by nature, because an apparatus requires instructions first.

Yes and all of those functions cannot be carried out without the need for breathing which is why the body was designed around breathing, because if you stop breathing all other functions will begin to shutdown automatically to conserve oxygen. Which means that the body has a shutdown initiation sequence when you stop breathing.

Can the human body store oxygen for hours?
Your lungs can store several hours worth of oxygen. The right lung is smaller than the left lung. The walls of the alveoli and capillaries are permeable.

I checked my dentist's website and he said that coffee is good for your teeth. He also said that lots of sugar is also good for your teeth. The sugar forms a barrier to bacteria.

See, shows you how much you know.

I'm sure you're very proud of your buck tooth smile, but I don't believe that the image you have up is an accurate portrait of you though...Because I think your dentist needs to give you longer teeth.

Why Does Coffee Stain My Teeth?
While the enamel on your teeth is the hardest substance in the human body, it does have tiny pores. When you drink coffee, the tannins in the brew seep into those pores, leaving deep stains behind. As coffee is acidic, it can also wear the enamel away over time, leading to more stains.

Can sugars cause disease?
Refined sugars may increase your risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. They're also linked to a higher likelihood of depression, dementia, liver disease, and certain types of cancer. Refined Sugar: Downsides, Food Sources, and How to Avoid It

As Paul said, ... everything works together ... and there is no working of the whole without ALL of it's members. No member (system) is higher/lower in supporting human life. If any systems fail, the entire body fails.

To support human life, the following systems must be in operation ...

Respiratory (i.e. breathing)
Circulation (i.e. blood flow)
Nervous - including the brain
Digestive - including elimination of waste material
Immune - including the skin (protection from harmful entities)
Endocrine (production/distribution of hormones/enzymes)
Muscular (all movement, including breath/heartbeat)
Skeletal (structural soundness - for room/capacity to perform all life functions)

For what it's worth, the brain controls breathing ... and heartbeat.

And, of course, the heart provides for the circulation of blood to all areas of the body.

And ... the lungs supply fresh oxygen to supply energy for life-support activity.

Which is why, there are so many different ways to arrest life ...

* Stop brain function
* Stop heart function
* Stop lung function
* Stop digestive/elimination of waste functions
* Blood loss
* Allow internal attack by external entities (germs, toxins, etc.)
* Break enough bones (especially around the thorax/abdomen ... where the majority of organs are housed (heart, liver, stomach, lungs, etc.)
