In my understanding, existence is the prerequisite for there being meaning, it is the frame of reference within which something can mean something to someone. What is the meaning behind existence, in your view?
Do you not think it is possible to contact that which is outside of our existence?Quite simply there is no meaning as far as I can determine. More importantly, of there is one it is beyond our ability to determine since that would originate from outside of our existence and would be inconceivable.
Therefore, we are to supply our own meaning (if required).
Why is existence a prerequisite for meaning? What if non-existence is what is meaningful? In my understanding, existence is the prerequisite for there being meaning, it is the frame of reference within which something can mean something to someone.
Thus, from my pov, your question is not a meaningful question any more than "What´s the colour of redness?" or "How fast is speed?".
The making of meaning is an activity of a mind..... an actual mind that exists. Meaning-making doesnt happen anywhere else. Why is existence a prerequisite for meaning? What if non-existence is what is meaningful?

Perhaps it is a paradox. Perhaps it is meaningful to seek after non-existence (as we know it), but meaning is no longer relevant once one arrives. The making of meaning is an activity of a mind..... an actual mind that exists. Meaning-making doesnt happen anywhere else.
I don't know ... I was inquiring as to how HerCrazierHalf referred to "our existence" ...The term "existence" presumably refers to all of existence, not just to "our" existence.
If you mean "our" existence, what is it that you are referring to? Do you mean the physical universe? Or what?
And what other existence do you think is outside of that?

I cant see the appeal of non-existence, except when life becomes more a lot more suffering than joy.Perhaps it is a paradox. Perhaps it is meaningful to seek after non-existence (as we know it), but meaning is no longer relevant once one arrives.
What is the appeal of existence? Isn't all of existence suffering? Even joy is temporary, leaving suffering in its wake. Life inevitably leads to death, grief, and sorrow.I cant see the appeal of non-existence, except when life becomes more a lot more suffering than joy.
For sure, "you" wont ever arrive at non-existence.
Suffering is temporary too. It ceases when joy emerges. What is the appeal of existence? Isn't all of existence suffering? Even joy is temporary, leaving suffering in its wake. Life inevitably leads to death, grief, and sorrow.
