As subjective as it may be, it's more realistic as to meaning in its essence rather than reducing us to a function, something teleological in a mechanical sense rather than a purpose which can be provisional and change as goals are met or priorities adjust.
My meaning of life is different than a meaning behind or underpinning life itself. The latter has no meaning, it merely has existence. Those who have the capacity to comprehend can discern that meaning is a motivator factor to actions and the will as well. Animals don't have a purpose to life, they serve functions as they experience life much faster in comparison and don't have the seeming ability to contemplate their life's meanings. They shouldn't, however, be reduced to a means, which is another thing entirely that connects to ethics more than whatever one might call the study of the meaning of life (teleology, perhaps?)

I would suggest that you're working towards the "inner world" which involves stripping off that which is less than ideal in order to reach the ideal.Neither, since I don't believe in the literal existence of any God.
However, if we get "symbolic" or "aesthetic" about the issue, I still wouldn't choose any of the above layers. I'd probably look to personal potential (one's ideal self) as a symbolic kind of god. Perhaps that would refer to the "inner world" as a whole, but wouldn't really fit on the chart in any literal way, since there is no part of oneself that is one's ideal self -- that's more of a power one has to actualize one's nature along a certain path, and it is difficult to pin that down to any particular layer.

I have heard many rationalizations for this, but maybe you have something different.
How do you reconcile a perfect/good God, with the realities of the world?To have created a cosmos with sentient life,that life must presume that it's glad He did.Nasty bugs get into my perfectly good vegetable patch & engage in Insect Armageddon while voraciously gobbling my crop. Yin/Yang. Real world people create all/own disasters.Nothing wrong w/planet culling the Human heard wouldn't cure.The macro/mirco universe confounds physics by needing a GOD/overmind to program the initial formulation (big-bang) & set in place the evolution of time/life/space/matter etc that follows. A real mobius strip/paradox (GOD works in mysterious ways) conundrum.Science/magic/GOD/man/ merge on a quantum level.Ultimately we only need to know enough to avoid the hungry Bear.Be as much like any life affirming/extending immortal being who may exist & hope for the best. What else can ya' do ??
