  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is the difference??

Based on my observations, Baptists tend towards Protestant Christianity, while Anabaptists are closer in theology to the Quakers, Mennonites, and Amish. Of course, these analogies aren't perfect. For example, Baptists do not use icons in our worship, and most Anabaptists don't retreat from modern society like the Amish.

But maybe my observations are flawed...

I have attended both Anabaptist (Grace Brethren) and Baptist churches and the difference at least between these two sects seem to me to be fairly minor. The Anabaptist sects in general may tend to reject "worldly" things more than Baptists (Baptists while maybe condemning movies and dancing did not reject technology like the Amish and do not do the headcovering for women that some Brethren and Mennonite denominations still do). Also there are significant differences in the way communion is done between Brethren and Baptist.

Anabaptists will (if they are true to historical anabaptist teaching) will place more emphasis on the action of Christianity than on doctrine and theology. Most baptists would shudder at the anabaptist writings of the 16th century.

Anabaptists will (if they are true to historical anabaptist teaching) will embrace the doctrine of the two kingdoms. They will eschew worldly political/government activity in favor of pursuing the Kingdom of God.

Anabaptists are one of the Peace Churches. Anabaptists will (if they are true to historical anabaptist teaching) avoid the shedding of blood via violence of war or defense.

Yeah, I like Anabaptists...except for their lack of emphasis on theology.

To my knowledge the only difference between the two is quiet simply anabaptist means to be rebaptised. Dictionary definition "From Late Greek anabaptizein, to baptize again" eg. if a catholic were to convert to the baptist faith he would be baptised again and thus be an anabaptist. If from this a seperate denomination has been born I am unaware of what possible differences there could be between the two.

Yeah the anabaptists are sort of new...if ya compare them to Orthodox & Catholic;) . Check out your 16th Century history-google Zwingli, Felix Manz, George Blaurock, Conrad Grebel, and Menno Simons for a quick history lesson.
