  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the Difference between Traditional and Contemporary?

The local Anglican Church that i am beginning to go to have 2 services on a Sunday. 8:30am is the traditional Service, which is the one i have attended. At 10:30, they have a contemporary service.

I know your answers may be like "just go and find out" which is what i may just do this sunday but just wondering what the differences are between the two services?

Is the contemporary more child friendly? or are the more formal ceremonial type things not done?

Cheers

I dont really know i go to a church that just lets God take controll. but i think a classic service will sing classic hyms with a choior and a keyboard while a contemporary service will sing newer songs with a band.

but i prefer a church that worships more than 30 minites.
in the 70s allot of servays were taken to find out exactly what christians want. what they found out was that. most christians want 3 worship songs follwed by about 30 min of teaching and for them to be out in 45 minuites. so basically every church comformed to that format cause they didn't care about anything but growing there church. But now in 2011. churches are shutting down faster than they are being planted in america because now people dont want to be in and out they want to actually experience God. :amen:

They will probably bring in guitars, and sing more modern songs. I would guess most of the ceremonial parts of the service would be set aside, but maybe not -- it depends on their choices in what they want to present.

Sometimes churches add contemporary services because they want to make religion relevant to the youth or visitors. Adults also ask for it, when they want something more lively, using common vernacular and more casual dress expectations. The sermon will probably be the same.

Now I will say "just go find out." (-;
