The Christian life is about loving the Lord. The Lord does not need our natural person to try to do something "good" for Him. He just wants us to love Him with our whole heart, and to give ourselves to Him and His purpose.

Matt.26:7-8

A woman came to Him, having an alabaster flask of ointment of great value, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at table. But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, Why this waste?

"Throughout the past twenty centuries thousands of precious lives, heart treasures, high positions, and golden futures, have been 'wasted' upon the Lord Jesus. To those who love Him in such a way He is altogether lovely and worthy of their offering. What they have poured upon Him is not a waste but a fragrant testimony of His sweetness."

You can also read the part where Mary and Martha are with Jesus, and Martha is getting upset because Mary isn't helping her to serve. And Mary is at Jesus's feet listening to His word. Jesus said that she had chosen the "good part" and that it would not be taken away from her.

I think it is so easy to think about all the things I want to do for the Lord to serve him, but then I forget about the Lord! I do this so easily without even realizing it. When I remember this and just spend time with Him, that is when I am truly at peace.

I agree that it is about loving the Lord and being loved by Him. It is the action that comes out of this that makes up living out our faith. I am just now beginning to grasp this as the Lord gives me more understanding.

His yoke really is easy and His burden, light:)

Yes, this is the first purpose, but there are more

have you read the Purpose Driven Life?

I think Jesus came that we might have life at its best (John 10.10), through Christ we have joy, love, and peace. Freedom from sin, and so on.

John 1
38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?"
39 He said to them, "Come, and you will see." So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

Like John's disciples, our goal as Christians, our desire, our life, is to be in communion with our Lord.

I am so awe-struck by this dialogue; I feel that it encapulates my perception of the Christian life. Instead of replying to Jesus' inquiry with a desire for Godly knowledge, wealth, emotional comfort, or any other variety of good things, the disciples asked where Jesus was staying! They wanted Jesus!

Indeed, the Christian life is about loving the Lord--coming to know and praise His wonderful being more and serving His majesty with grateful hearts!
