Emphasis on the word "FREE"

Genre doesn't matter much for me. I'm just looking for a fun and free distraction.

When I say free, I mean that the download is free, and there's no need to purchase credits (and no monthly fees).

I'm looking at the list of games on MMORPG.com right now, but I'd like to see the input of the expert gamers here on this forum.

Yay, post deletion by back button!!!

Anyway, my post went something like this: Free games are free for a reason and usually aren't worth the time. The reason there is a price on these games is for covering overhead costs and development.

That being said, I play Second Life at the moment while waiting for Darkfall to come out. It's not great, but it gives me some good music from going to the clubs and there are a few fantasy based RP groups. There are also some Christian groups on there to hang out at.

Second Life is entertaining for things like being able to fly, etc.

What isn't cool is you can end up in some veeeery random places. Like my first ever teleport to the main world, I landed in some kind of sex disco.

Horrible.

Just horrible.

The effect it had on my bandwidth streaming that much German techno....horrible.

Anyway, even many simple MMORPGs require some kind of payment. Mankind and Runescape are good and fairly cheap. But honestly, I'd fork out for a mainstream, well-maintained, paid RPG.

Hmmm....sounds like fun indeed, I'm just wondering how much the story of KotOR 1 and 2 will tie into it. Honestly, I wish they'd release one last single player RPG to wrap up the Revan storyline before doing an MMORPG - they really don't lend themselves to dramatic storytelling.

Not completely free but you can find a copy of Guild Wars for around $20.00 (or spend closer to $50 for the first 3 chapters) and the online play is free. No monthly fees. In my opinion blows WoW out of the water. But I'm mostly a PvP player and don't get much into the PvE aspect of it.

There are also games called Muds (Multiple user dungeons) that use the telnet protocol (all computers come with it) and are text based. They can be a blast to play. You quest, slay monsters (and other players if that floats your boat), interact with other people, craft, learn skills, use magic, etc, etc, etc, etc. 99.9% of these are 100% free from any fees.

Runescape is all I can think of.
However, there are 2 parts to the game; free to play, and members.
Free to play is exactly that... free to play, but you are limited in some of the things you can do and the places you can go.
Members is pretty much limitless, and is pretty cheap.
Just be careful with it, there was a lawsuit against the creators of the game for making the game "too addicting" and the guy won. True story (to my understanding).

I know a Christian group plays Perfect World a free mmorpg. They have a game night on the Sanctuary server Tuesdays 7:00pm central but I don't know how busy they are. Google (christian crew cc perfect world).

I've played Mabingoni, Silkroad and 9 Dragons in the past and disliked them all >.< . I never played Perfect world so I cannot speak for it though I thought it looked interesting.

My brother just got me on this game that he says is ranked highest on the MMORPG sites. It's called Atlantica Online. I've been playing it over the weekend and I really like it too. There's a lot to it. The only real issue I have with it is the clothing style, revealing clothing is everywhere on characters and such alike, making the armor look not very effective because of how much skin is free reign. Other than that the game is really a lot of fun. Most of my family is playing it and loves it.

Let me know if you get on and we'll join up! It'd be great to know some Christian gamers on there.

Guild Wars, isn't free, but is an awesome game as well. I like that one a lot.

Second Life isn't really a "game", it's a social network.

It is interesting how everything in the game is player created, but that's where the novelty really wears out. You can only buy so many clothes, you can only go to so many clubs, and you can only do so much of the same things before you get really bored.

That being said, there is a decent enough Christian network on there called Eternal Creations and a church run by a pastor in Ireland that has services on Sundays.

For kids, there's Wizzard101
(Think WOW for Kids)

It's a cross of WOW & Card based combat.
Cartooney 3D Graphics, minimized chat options (drop down list) unless you're 13+ then you can type what you want.

Two Play options Free / Pay (Give you access to other levels / more coin / PvP Ranking)
