Hi. In discussions on other forums it was brought up by Messianics that the Law must be kept because the Christ did not fulfill or take away the Law but rather "strenghthened" it.
Can anyone tell me how much of the ALL in Matt 5:18 has to be fulfilled as I am pretty confused on this myself. Thanks and peace.

Matthew 5:18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled/come to pass [#1096 genhtai ].

Do you mean the 10 commandments when you say the Law?

Do the Jews claim God gave them more laws to keep apart from the 10 commandments?
Hi. According to Messianics and Jews, there are about 700 ordinances and "oral traditional" law to be kept. I will try and find that info.

Deut 28:15 `And it hath been, if thou dost not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God to observe to do all His commands, and His statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day, that all these revilings have come upon thee,

Gala 5:2 lo, I Paul do say to you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing; 3 and I testify again to every man circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law; 4 ye were freed from the Christ, ye who in law are declared righteous; from the grace ye fell away;

The Church always reads the scripture in it's proper context.
I would hope that all Christ-ians read the Scriptures in the proper context.
So what is your view of that passage? Thanks
:)

ROM 10:4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

MAT 22:37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
- this commandment, to love God and one another still stands. This simply means treat others as you would yourself. And put God first in all your decisions.

The ritual parts of the law are the ones that were fullfilled in Jesus. For example, the lamb sacrificed, pointed to Jesus being sacrificed and so on and so forth.

We do not live by the law anymore.

HEB 10:9 He sets aside the first to establish the second.

-the first covenant (the law brought by Moses) was set aside. We live under a new covenant (of faith and grace).

HEB 8:6 But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

JOH 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

GAL 2:14 When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?15 "We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners'16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.17.. for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
3:1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? ...
2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?

Paul says the law was made obsolete and was passing away in his day . . .

Jesus said "It is finished" on the cross. . .

Anyone who makes keeping the Old Covenant law a requirement of salvation is nothing more than a Judaizer. .

If it is not required, then they have no business saying that it is.

Paul always battled this .. all his words against works is about the works of the law. . all these little ordinances . .

There is no reason to be confused by this if one understands what Paul was battling in this regard. .

If what they say is true, then all Christian males have to be circumcised to be saved . . . we all know what Paul had to say on that matter . . .

Don't let yourself be confused . . . it is the same error the Apostles battled from day one . . . .

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Jesus being the controversial guy that he was said this to make it clear, as he did in many other places in scripture, that he didn't come to bring anything new, or take anything away from the law and prophets.

He came to fulfill. In a sense Jesus is the law in the flesh. Jesus is God's standard, the standard that we can never meet.
