  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

got it, I thought I blew my cover in conversation. I guess not. If I could aptly argue YE, I think it would be a good appologetic or reason to interpret the bible in a more literal way. I think the bible holds up pretty well when interpreted literally. Note I said "pretty well".
There are some difficulties either way, that is there is not a complete answer to every question one may pose.

I meant it. Also you mentioned OE stands up to science, which I believe you have studied, and which I believe stands up to science also, eventhough I am not a physisist (spell) nor do I have foundation in science other than 2 yr college education.

I also said "God did a good job" (naturally). To go further I would add "of creating us and the universe and everything else He has done for us (before we came to faith)((all the ground work)) that we would take a step of faith toward Him and, He, remaining consistent that He would never be "proven" in the manner we (the mixed multitude) desire or demand. That is, if God wanted every person to absolutely believe in His existence, He could physically show Himself (or use some other overt fashion).
We know He requires faith in Him, faith that He IS. But we also know He is the one who gives us evrey bit of faith we have.

I'm not sure if I got my point out, just that science, or any common system pointing away from proving God would be consistent with YEC and literal bible interpretation.

but what i do know is there is no way anyone knows what the earth was like back then.

How can you know that? Since you haven't studied the science, you don't know what it can and cannot tell you.

Science can tell you a lot more than you think it can.

honestly ive kind of given up on the thought, i will check it out more here and there, but frankly, knowing this will not lead me to heaven. Just thought i would try some of the young earth theorys ive heard.

Truthfullythe only thing i have looked into on this matter, was a kent hovind video, and i tell you if he is lieng, if he is guessing, if he is wrong, He made a lot of since to me.

However i believe he is now in jail for tax evasion, so who know, may he is a professional con

I have wondered for years as to whether Hovind was purely a con artist or a professional liar for Christ with some delusion thrown in or he really believed it all.

My gut feeling is that he really was an amalgam of all the above. I know he would lie if needs be, I also know he is greedy money wise if needs be and I also think he actually believed most of his material as well.

Overall he is a very sad case.

Gravitation by Misner, Thorne and Wheeler would hurt quite a bit.
Granted, I've only taken introductory levels in most subjects. The textbooks I saw my Physics TA reading looked quite nasty. I don't even venture to read the articles constantly on my dad's desk.

so do you now feel victorious, you have beaten me to death with a science book

Huh? I don't think this is ever really a case of victory unless that victory is for people to investigate and learn something.

I don't think I have opened a single science text over the entire Christmas break.

A lot younger than "most people" give it credit for.

Even if ancient man was primitive (which I doubt), God has always been, has always been all-knowing, and was kind enough to have a book written for us that tells all about it.
careful, you dont know what your getting into

Actually I've only ever seen it as a paperback. I'm not sure they ever produced a hardback version. Still a heft book though.
Finished up two good Audible Books.

The Fabric Of The Cosmos (Unabridged)
and
A Short History Of Nearly Everything (Unabridged)
