  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is a supernatural phenomena in which one speaks a language he or she does not know or understand but which God understands perfectly.

Not all Christians subscribe to speaking in tongues (it's not required). Some believe that it happened on the day of Pentecost in the upper room but not today.

I happen to believe it still exists today. Here is some scripture about it. I hope it helps:

1 Corinthians 14:1-4
(NLT)

Tongues and Prophecy

1 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy. 2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,[a] you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. 3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. 4 A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.
5 I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

14-15
14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,[d] and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

39-40
39 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

how can you speak in tongue? Can anyone speaking tongue?
Many Christians make it part of their daily lives. It is not as frightening as it sounds.

Think about a time when you really liked a girl, but when you talked to her your words didn't match up with your heart. There were things you felt and wanted to express, but you couldn't.

Part of tongues, is having a way to express what we feel inside.
Another part of tongues, is allowing God's Holy Spirit to pray through us for others. We don't know all the situations and needs, but He does.

There are also public tongues, spoken in the fellowship meetings with another person delivering a matching prophesy in the common language. That is more rare, and even some Charismatic churches put restrictions on that.

One time I was praying in tongues during a service, and I felt like I knew what I was praying for... then I felt I knew that a certain person was about to deliver a matching prophesy. Within half a minute, they did!

I think that was God training me, trying to get that gift moving in our church. But it didn't progress further... maybe my own resistance.

I'm not really sure what speaking in tonques is. Can someone tell me what is speaking in tongue? how can you speak in tongue? Can anyone speaking tongue?
There's some disagreement over what it is, Scripturally.

In modern terms, there's ecstatic speech, the speech of someone who is overcome with emotion. It occurred in ancient Greek religions and was often historically called "speaking in tongues" in Christian history as well.

The Scriptural phenomenon has been argued a couple of different ways.

Sometimes it's considered to be the "authentic" spiritual speaking of which emotional, ecstatic speech would then be a fleshly, shallow copy. Examples in 1 Corinthians (12 & 14), especially when Paul mentions the miraculous interpretation of tongues, are thought to be of this type.

Sometimes it's considered to be the Spirit's ability to give people the speech and understanding of other human languages. Languages were created by the Spirit of God (at Eden and then Babel). Acts 2 describes how the Spirit granted the disciples to speak in other tongues as well. It can be argued that the tongues of 1 Corinthians are also of this type, though Paul's not clear one way or the other.

It's not considered by Paul to be a more-desired gift of the Spirit: Paul's much more wishing that the Corinthians would gain prophecy, or even teaching.

Hi,

During the period when Jesus is in the earth no such language was available. When He was died, He sent the Holy Spirit to support us. If anyone got the Holy Spirit then he can speak the language that he ever learn t. This language may be a language in some other country.
(i.e) US person can speak Indian language.

A word for you if you are a saint speaking in tongues

A word for the church if you are a prophet speaking in tongues

Your carnal mind may not understand but, your Soul does and your Soul will make the change.. Because everything must adhere to the Lord.

The Holy Ghost administers- decides who and what will be said.

Sometimes you think no one is there to interpret but, that prophet in your church understands and if moved by the Holy Ghost will speak it when it's for the church.

All The Glory Belongs To God Forever!
