written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through
holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by
the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the
knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are

Defining 'Sola Scriptura': "Bible Only"
- Latin: "Sola" = Alone
- Latin: "Scriptura" = Scriptures
- Latin: "Sola Scriptura" = Bible Only
Sola scriptura was a foundational doctrinal principle of the Protestant Reformation held by the reformer Martin Luther and is a definitive principle of Protestants today (see Five solas)
Sola scriptura may be contrasted with Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox teaching, in which the Bible must be interpreted by church teaching, by considering the bible in the context of Sacred Tradition, and with the concept of modern revelations and prophecies in the Charismatic movement.
Some believe 'Sola Scriptura' means:
- The Bible alone without creeds. (ie Apostles creed, Nicene creed.)
- The Bible alone without councils. (ie Ecumenical Councils.)
- The Bible alone without church canons. (ie Canons of Dort.)
- The Bible alone without statements of faith. (most churches create one.)
- The Bible alone without oral tradition. (unless it is found in the Bible.)
- The Bible alone without church tradition. (unless it is found in the Bible.)
- The Bible alone without a "church interpreter". (Catholic, Orthodox, Jehovah's Witnesses all say only the church can correctly interpret the Bible, not the individual.)
- The Bible alone without individual illumination of the Holy Spirit. (Evangelicals, Baptists, Charismatics and Calvinists believe they are personally guided by the Holy Spirit to correctly interpret the Bible.)
- The Bible alone without modern day prophecy and inspiration. (Pentecostal, Charismatic Mormons, Seventh-day Adventists claimed to have living prophets.)
THE WORD OF GOD
No book has been so loved, so hated, so revered, so
damned as the Bible. People have died for the Bible. Others
have killed for it. It has inspired man's greatest, noblest
acts, and been blamed for his most damnable and degenerate.
Wars have raged over the Bible, revolutions have been
nurtured in its pages, and kingdoms crumbled through its
ideas. People of all viewpoints--from liberation theologians
to capitalists, from fascists to Marxists, from dictators to
liberators, from pacifists to militarists--search its pages
for words with which to justify their deeds.
The Bible's uniqueness does not come from its
unparalleled political, cultural, and social influence, but
from its source and its subject matter. It is God's
revelation of the unique God-man: the Son of God, Jesus
Christ --the Saviour of the world.

But does Gods truth start and stop at 'Sola Scriptura' the Bible only, is that the only way we can seek him, does God reveal truth in any other way and does the Bible support it.
