  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I never said I believed in an afterlife, im kinda agnostic about it. However, just because something exists outside of the realm of science, does not mean an inteligent creator (deity) put it there. You can believe that they did, or you can believe that they didn't, which means that it is a belief that can be held by both theists and atheists. The of course often differ on the details, but thats a different story. :)

another example, there are atheist buddhists that believe in Nirvana.

so if you believe in a Supernatural afterlife, then how do you believe it to be created?

Im assuming by "get here" you mean first cause and all that fun stuff.

I dont know. Of course, the fact that I dont know, doesn't automatically mean God did it. Just that I dont know. I dont see any reason to believe that a god did though.

Then how did we get here then? you know I believe in God, you know I believe in the Supernatural. You know how I believe we got here, how do you believe we got here? As for me, the evidence of God and his word is there, its whether people believe it or not

Really?

Supernatural god does not need a creator, why would supernatural afterlife?
remember, this is the supernatural, anything is possible.

It also should be noted, that some afterlife beliefs are a belief of a changed state of being. You can change your own mind, and thus its possible that we create the afterlife ourselves. For example, Nirvana is a state of being, not really an actual place.

oh ok, I suppose

given:

no creator

no God

no anything

then: ‘it can be shown’ that it is just there

makes more since to believe in a Creator, than to believe with our minds, poof we have an afterlife. In fact it probably takes more faith to believe that an afterlife is created without a creator than with
No USAF, Creator is just one of the explanations for first cause. Your logic, if I may use the word loosley, explains nothing. It is God of The Gaps and just really poor thinking. If you want to convince/convert people, you have to do much better than that. My daughter come up with similar arguments, although she is a small child. When questioned why she often says, "because, because I just do." I can accept it from a little girl but not a grown man that claims to have three degrees. I asked you to show me using Physics which you claim to be proficient in and you give me THAT? I said show me using Physics and then you say "OK, I suppose" and THEN reason like a school child (scratching head).

You'll be waiting a long time for USAF to dazzle you with some physics.

Isn't he the guy with the 'machine that violates conservation of angular momentum' post.

By the way USAF, dazzle me with your physics.

Tell me why there is conservation of angular momentum and whose theorem it really comes from in a theoretical framework of spacetime symmetries?

Yup:D. AND three engineering degrees. I truly believe he was going to say he had a degree in Physics until he kept going to head to head with people who actually do and he knows no one would buy that. Then when asked what his degrees were in it took him quite a while to say, he kept telling us not to worry about it. I personally think he was feeling the waters to see what our degrees are in. He then concluded there was no one with an engineering degree (which may not even be accurate) and suddeny he claims his degrees are in engineering. I know a couple engineers and there logic and prose is a little more "with it" then this guy. He may have an associates in some techinical application like systems networking etc. but that is about all. When asked by Lucaspa if they were BS, MS etc. he would not answer. Then he tried to say his classes met once a week. In The States college just does not work like that. (Undergrad)The sciences meet 2 times a week for 1.5 hours each or 3 times a week for 1 hour each. Then additionally, you meet usually once a week for a 3 hour lab. I have heard of people going to night school once a week, but typically not in the sciences. I think this guy is The Walter Mitty of CF.

He claimed he came to this forum to "support" a friend and to help them. LOL.

Yeap, same guy! LOL, true. He came in spouting words like "angular momentum" and "velocity". Remember he was going to dazzle us with that machine? Until he realized that yourself and couple of the other guys actually are physicists. He then kind of became slack jawed. :) See above as his answer to my requests for physics info to prove his point. He said he will and then answers with Goddidit and because. :D There must have been some gullable rubes in the forum he came from?? Maybe not though-maybe he thought he would try his luch here!

USAF so desperately wants to be percieved as smart AND convince us of his God ,that because of the former he makes the latter seem inane. I personally think he is working for the atheists and they must be having a membership drive or recruiting event, does anyone know? Is it that time of year again?? Comes around fast doesn't it! ;)
