  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi!

In the bible in Nehemiah the people sat and read the word of God and it brought revival as it cut them to the heart.

To get revivial today thats what we need to do- get back to the word of God not the word of man:sorry:

I agree 100% !!!

The only problem is the people in Nehemiahs day knew the Law of God, they knew their state before Holy God, but today people have next to no knowledge.

I think its the set up of the modern church that keeps people ignorant. You can get more study info on line.

Having the pastor give a talk based on a verse is nice, but 95% of this is him, 5% word.

Now as I can't find anything contry to the Word of God in the sermon, I don't know what the problem is.

The practice of the sermon in itself is contrary to the Word of God!

Can you find for me even e tiny passage from the N.T. which indicates that the new testament's believers had the Sunday service that the modern church practices today? That the new testament's believers were sermoned every Sunday up to an hour and they did nothing but sit and hear?

Something is not contrary to the Scriptures simply because it isn't mentioned . The Scriptures make no mention of using PC's to encourage others , either . That doesn't mean that PC's are contrary to the Scriptures .

Of course , I very much dislike the sermonizing . I just wouldn't say that it is sinful .

It's alright Wino, we all understand how unBiblical a sermon has become in churches! God has always wanted us to learn. And a sermon is a very inefficient way of doing that. Agreed. But some people still believe in them... you won't win that kind of arguement, just upset people or have thm thinking you are misguided.

Personally I liked the bit in the Bible when that geezer had to sit maked in the town centre for like a year, eating from food cooked on poo and chopping his hair off and burning it or scattering it... one of the earliest "Happening"? Now that was a sermon!

The whole concept of church today is not biblical, including the sermon of course. The strange thing is that preachers, pasotors and/or leaders today say that they do nothing but what the Bible says. In fact 99% of what they do is unscriptural. The problem is not if we like ore dislike being sermoned, but whether something is functioning or not in the body of Christ.

I do not claim that we should see what the bible says about the church so that we could do the same thing. That would be building a church by copying and pasting from the N.T. The church cannot be created even if somebody does something 100% according to scriptures. The church can only be born, but the life of a church will not be contrary or strange to the N.T. church.

Your example, New Wineskin, has nothing to do with the functioning of a local church. Paul, for instance, encouraged the churches by writing them letters, but if at that time the telephone, or the computer was invented, he would do that by calling them, or by e-mailing them. I don't think that it was difficult/impossible in Paul's time for somebody to sermon his people every Sunday. It didn't happen just because it was not God's intention to have the kind of church we have today.

The irony is that we claim we do everything according to scriptures!

I listened to it and found it encouraging, insightful and challenging; something definitely worth taking the time to listen to instead of squabbling.

What is the difference between Paul writing a letter to someone and Josh Williamson—in essence—sending you an audio clip? It’s really the Lord speaking through the individual. I would encourage everyone to at the very least entertain the thought that the Lord might just possibly be speaking through our fellow brother, Josh. Not to would be foolish, and quite frankly, arrogant.

Unless of course he was preaching what God had laid on his heart.

I was commenting on these passages, not on the audio!
