Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Depends really.

Mainly it depends upon the idea of whether or not you believe there is an "absolute right™" or there is the ability to have your own right and wrongs, as an individual.

If the absolute is the one, then what the absolute says, goes. Otherwise, what you find wrong, is immoral, what you find right is moral.

I tend to speak of it as such: To co-exist in society with others requires "Good" behavior, wheras to collapse society and destroy others requires "Bad" behavior.

That definition usually works for me, as well as my parents really. Even though things are bad, doesn't mean you can't still do them. Just.. adding that in.

Hey,

You know something is immoral if it violates the commandments God has set for us. Or, if you do it for the glory of someone/something besides God, or if it causes harm to someone. Also, you can tell by consience (not the best method), and examining the results of a particular action (you reap what you sow, but don't take this too far.) You can also ask God for the wisdom to do the right thing, (James 1:5). As you get closer to God, you will be more conformed to Jesus Christ, so you can expect to start loving what God loves, and hating what God hates (don't rely on this if you don't communicate with Him very often). If a certain action has mastery over you (like, eating to much ice cream) then it is a sin, and it is also wrong to not do the right thing when you know it's right (James, end of chapter 4). If there's anything I missed, feel free to add.

Morality is hard for humans to define. One way to try to define what is right and wrong for you is to think about how different acts make you feel. Imagine how you feel in the act or how you feel if the act happens to you. "Do unto others as you would have done to you."

Morality to God is not hard to define at all, but God does not have the clouded judgement of human beings. The Ten Commandments as mentioned in a previous message are the best starting point for determining if an act is right or wrong, moral or immoral.

Take care,
Troy

My beliefs in a simplistic nutshell.

If it makes people happy it is good.
If it makes people sad it is bad.
If it does neither it doesn't matter.
What would you say if its in the middle.

Thwingly - I agree. Anything you missed would be found in the Bible, which is my moral or imoral guide.

A friend of mine, an atheist, bases his morality on efficiency of mankind. Efficiency is right and good, deffeciency is wrong and evil. This is interesting, because, while I consider efficiency to be a characteristic of good, and deffeciency one of bad, ultimately mankind simply does not know what is MOST efficient, there may be consequences to our actions which may show our action to be wrong. Apart from this, why is goodness efficiency? You can't simply stop at efficiency, for the atheist at least, because moral decisions like this are entirely arbitrary. For atheists, it could be just as moral to pursue efficiency as it would be deffeciency.

I thought someone might think that was interesting, anywho, see ya!

Sincerely,
Thwingly.
