This psalmist seemed to be asking something similar:

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while men say to me all day long,
"Where is your God?"
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
among the festive throng.

Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon-from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.

By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me-
a prayer to the God of my life.

I say to God my Rock,
"Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?"
My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
"Where is your God?"

Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

The writer of this psalm feels far from God, discouraged, and longs to be nearer to God.
He felt God was closer in the past, now He seems far away.

The thing to remember in times of spiritual drought is that our thirst for Him is the proof that he is near -
if He really was far away, you would not have the urge to find Him.

This is the "deep" of God calling to the "deep" of man. Man can only respond because the Holy Spirit of God is calling to his own spirit.

It is not easy, but he has promised we will find Him if we keep seeking:

Jeremiah 29:11-14

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD " you will seek me and will find me when you seek me with all your heart."

God bless, Susana

"Duk et altum."-set out into the deep. These are the words Jesus used when he told his aposltles to set out into deep water. I went to a retreat with this theme last Labor Day. Jesus wants each of us to set out into the deep to be with him, and love him deeply!
By the way, great psalm, Susana!
