  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do you account for evil spirits then?

My own thoughts are that the evil angels, particularly, those that were the cause for the Flood, are locked in chains in everlasting darkness until such time as Satan is given the key to release them from Tartarus ie the bottomless Pit.

itmt, their progeny, the Nephilim, when they died, their spirits are what roam the unseen portion of this creation. Having once been of the physical realm they find it painfully unbearable to be without a fleshy host to indwell and when they are unable to find a human gladly take anything they can, even herd of swine.

Both Testaments have an unusual amount of information regarding the Nephilim. The second chapter of Joel and Revelation 9 are remarkably similar. If they are to return seeking a repeat of what led up to the Flood then it will indeed take the Army of the Lord to defeat them.

It is possible they could also be the animate force of clones since, imo, they cannot possess God's breath of life and, if that be the case, then the spirits of the dead Nephilim coupled with any new ones made after their angelic forebears are released could make for a scary and frightening time of the end and we will indeed look forward to the Day of The Lord to end everything.

The unsaved have a spirit and a soul, just like the saved, except the latter have their spirits quickened by the Holy Spirit which also renews the mind of the soul. So the Bible says we are spirit and soul.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, of which, I do not concur; nor do I agree that that is what the bible states, infers or teaches but, rather, is only your personally interpreted understanding up to this point in time.

"spirit and soul and body" (1 Thess. 5.23) when God seeks the "dividing of soul and spirit" (Heb. 4.12).
Were the above writers addressing saved or unsaved?

Which of the above phrases contain figures of speech and what are they?

Scripture says when God breathed His breath of life into the formed dust man became A living soul thus 'man' = 'soul'.

There are only six books in the bible specifically addressing Christians and I Thessalonians is one of them. go figger.

1 Thessalonians 5:23, "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

In THIS passage the usage is:

'Spirit' refers to God's (pneuma) breath of life":

MAN (psychologically), pneuma being imparted to man, making him "a living psuche" ( = "a living soul", or being, as in Gen. 2:7. Ps. 104:29, 30. Ecc. 12:7). When taken back to and by God, man, without pneuma, becomes and is called "a dead soul" in each of the thirteen occurrences rendered in A.V. "dead body", &c.-EWB

'Soul' is 'psuche' and:
is used of the life of man, which can be lost, destroyed, saved, laid down, &c. and is in direct reference to God's breath of life without which there can be no life for the flesh.-EWB

***********************************

Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

In THIS passage the usage is:

In this verse, 'Soul', is the same as in the above previous verse, i.e. 'psuche' and is dependant solely upon God's breath of life to remain. It is the memories that result of sentient awareness, it is not the life force itself as man has no life force apart from that of God's breath of life.

Here we have the life force, God's breath of life:

psuche = the breath of animal life; one of the manifestations of zoe, common to all living animals. In one passage (Isa. 10:18, the Heb. nepesh. It is used of the living individual as such.-EWB

and here we have the result of that life force:

'Spirit' refers to the psychological components of awareness the result of which is God's breath of life.
*************************************

The two words and their near synonymous renderings at times are divided between the life force and the effects of that life force, i.e.:
  • God's breath of life
  • The sentient memories (psychological)
**************************************

This is vaguely reminiscent of the differences between "The Giver" and "the gifts".

**************************************
"Dividing asunder of the soul and spirit" means not only differentiating between that which is begotten of the flesh and that which is begotten of the Spirit in the individual; but also between the natural (psuchikos) man and the spiritual (pneumatikos) man-.
