Attended a charismatic prayer in catholic church. I realised the procedures are identical of any charismatic protestant church. Praying in tongue, priest hands on members head, members fall asleep and claim to be "filled" by the holy spirit. What is happening? is it how a charismatic prayer should be? why is it so much like what they did in protestant church? is it acceptable?

The charasmatic gifts are universal. The apostles had it after Christ's passion and Paul discusses it rather in depth in one of his letters. It talks about the types of charismatic gifts and such. Like it or not, protestant christianity is rooted to Catholicism.

How do you know that they are mere false claims? I know its hard at first but spiritual growth is slow and sure and it feels like for every step you take, there are two steps you take backwards. Hang in there. You're not alone.

Will post links later unless someone else who is much more well equipped with Catholic arsenal posts one up later.

First, these types of charisms are not granted to everyone. Additionally, all charismatic prayer is not necessarilly done in this fashion. However, it must be noted that just because it seems similar to a protestant practice, does not mean that it is necessarilly un-catholic. It should be noted that speaking and praying in tongues as well as other charisms existed first within the Catholic Church long before any "protestant" ever existed.
