I don't really see any threads on MMORPG's here and not sure if it is even that popular in the Christian environment..

I am mainly talking of games like:

Everquest
DAOC
Star Wars Galaxies
Anarchy Online
Shadowbane
Asherons Call
Ultima Online
Horizons
FFXI

I would think that there would be some Christian representation in some of these games as the subscription total for all of these games is probably well over 1 million subscribers...

Do any of you play online games and how do you relate that to your Christian lifestyle?

I have to say about the only two MMORPG's I'm looking forward too are Pirates of the Burning Sea and the multiplayer patch for Enigma Rising Tide. As for relating to my lifestyle, as long it's not based gratuitous violence or profanity, I see little wrong with it.

too bad Microsoft cancelled Battletech 3050

speaking of MMORPGs, my friends are actually designing one based on the PlayerWorlds engine. it's quite popular in our school, but only in our school, and to a select few kids in Delaware who know about it.

are there any good MMORPGs that don't require subscription fees?

^^ I agree, but there's a small problem there. a company called Genetic Anomalies didn't charge subscription for any of their games. the most notable one, Star Trek Conquest Online, was a thriving community, but eventually 99% of the population left when the company shut down support. the reason: tons of people registered, then forgot about it because they were "casual gamers". the main server was set up to keep track of every player's card data (it was an online CCG), so when 99% of the people leave, their data is still locked up in the server taking up bandwidth. that's terrabytes of data we're talking about, no joke. the company couldn't keep up with the cost of accomadating hundreds of gigabytes of unused data, and the whole joint was so unprofitable, the company shut down every aspect of the game: official website, FTP servers, game server, everything. terrabytes of data, erased, because a group of casual gamers didn't help out and pay to maintain their own data. that's what happens when you open up a game for absolutely free and nobody makes donations :(

ive played most of them at one save UO and anarchy, DAOC i played for like an hour and hated it, SWG i played for about 1 month, shadowbane i did beta and month of play or so, but i didnt like any of them so i keep pluggin away at EQ while its still enjoyable, have had 2 65 chars, on a monk on stromm currently

i try not to get addicted to it again and ive done pretty well with it, i still play quite a bit but its more social for me in that im only playing it because nothing better to play except UT and the fact that i have a couple RL friends that still play with me and we are still having a blast, but it definatly is hard to maintain a social life and a relationship with God through it all, but its still possible cause im doing it :D
