DInsight has the insight on the anointing thats for sure.
Finally I agree with you DInsight, good job.
He wrote so much that I agree with that I can't post it all.

If Jesus lives in our heart by faith then that is where the anointing lives too. If you greve the Holy Spirit ...
Jesus is still with you, but you will lose the fire of the anointing.

I've seen this and surely you have too with new born again Christians who go back to their old sins.

I believe in the baptism in water for the comittment and the baptism of the Holy Spirit for the gifts.

The gifts and calling of God scripture in Romans 11:29 could be used if I wanted to, but I prefer to think St Paul was talking about the Jews in the Book of Romans chapter 11 even though many agree that it is for today's Christians too.

Romans 11:26-29
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. 29 for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Actually, no he doesn't, he only understands the anointing within the believer and obviously hasn't experienced the anointing "upon" the believer.

It is clearly viewed in what Jesus said in Luke 4:18,..

18 (ASV) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,

The anointing is clearly described as distinctly different from The Holy Spirit in that scripture.

This is what the anointing is: The anointing upon a person is a Spiritual oil poured upon our heads by our high Priest, Jesus. Only then can The Spirit of The Lord rest upon a person in power. This is a tangibly felt experience available for every believer.

That is the true anointing you are desiring, not something floating around in the air somewhere or just within us, it is upon us. The material examples given of the anointing oil being poured upon a persons head in the OT are the Spiritual examples for us to reach for in the NT.

Once we are saved, it is quite easy to receive the filling of The Holy Spirit within us, it is just a matter of time, but it is quite another thing to receive the anointing upon us. Most people don't reach up for that or even believe that there is a further work of grace from GOD for us, yet if we pay attention to what Jesus said and did, it is obvious He walked in a greater measure than what most believers experience today.

It all depends on what one desires in their heart. If they want to walk in that presence of The Holy Spirit just like Jesus did, then they will need to crucify the flesh, and that will take time being with Jesus in prayer. Satan will fight you every step of the way since he knows what the anointing is about, he was the anointed cherub before.
