Being made in the image of God means that God made us to reflect His glory, like a mirror reflection. To reflect His love, goodness, compassion etc.

Then we sinned and we became broken images of God, but still images nonethelss. God sent His Son so we might be restored into image of God that is not broken by sin.

Because sin corrupted us. We do not deflect God's glory as we ought to. Broken image is the term I use to describe to what sin has done.
