  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As a convert, I'm still learning about all the rules, especially the rules on the different fasts. :)

Is fish and seafood allowed during Apostles fast? Are they allowed only on certain days. I think I'm getting Lent and this fast mixed up. I generally eat a lot of fish and seafood, but I want to observe fast correctly. Looking up sites on the web just makes more confusion. Is fish and seafood considered meat? If it is, I can get some veggie soy food from Thriftway next week.

Generally fish without backbone (shrimp, scallops, clams, eel etc.) are allowed all days. Fish with backbone are eaten on weekends. Wine and oil are allowed on Tue/Thurs/Sat/Sun but not on Mon/Wed/Fri. If there is a special feast day during the week, the rules are relaxed; Fish is allowed on Tue/Thur or wine/oil if feast is on Mon/Wed/Fri. We abstain from all meat/dairy/eggs during the entire fast.

These are the 'rules' in the Russian tradition, your jurisdiction may vary. Always ask your father-confessor what rules you should follow.
