  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all!
I am looking into what a 'Worship Experience' is for a school assignment in the context of worship through song. I know there is many ways to worship God everyday but for the purpose of my assignment it is specifically on worship through music.

I have a survey that I have posted on this website: (https://goo.gl/forms/QzP59o73JowDjAv12) here is the link to the survey if you would like to take part/ looking for more information.

But I am looking for a wider answer to the question:
What is a 'Worship Experience' and what makes it so memorable/impactful?
Is there key factors/elements in creating a 'Worship Experience' that is so memorable/impactful?

And this thread seemed perfect to get many different view points/ angles.

-Thanks Liam.

The true biblical definition of "to worship" means "to live accordingly". You either live ( worship ) according to Satan and the beast or you live according to Christ, the pure thoughts of our Creator.

All God's created men will live ( worship ) according to Christ in the next generation without ever being deceived again by Satan and the beast.

Prolly Christian Advice would have been a better place, this area don't seem to get a lot of traction.

As for your question, I have no input, sorry bro.
Okay will do, thanks for your help!

Coming from a more Lutheran perspective the chief "experience" of worship is the encounter with God's grace in Word and Sacrament. The liturgy exists to serve that purpose; interior feelings and experiences brought about by music aren't important, and in fact can be dangerous if we are left to imagine that our own emotional response to something is itself God. Emotional responses to music aren't bad, but they aren't the reason we come together, we come together to hear the Gospel and receive the Sacraments; in this we are the benefactors of God's grace as He shapes and molds us as His people, creating, sustaining, and nourishing faith and by which we are built up and constituted as His Church. Worship, therefore, is the dynamic between the reception of God's good gifts, and our thankful response to those gifts. To that end the most chief experience is the experience of receiving Christ's flesh and blood "in and under" the bread and wine of the Eucharist, because it is a living, objective encounter with Jesus Christ, living and incarnate; not merely a "spiritual" encounter, but a tangible, physical encounter--as it is His real flesh and real blood, the same flesh which was conceived in Mary's womb, and which was pierced on the cross, and which Thomas and the other disciples felt and saw after His resurrection; really, actually, truly Jesus.

Hi all!

Speaking for myself, music is one of the ways I encounter the Sacred. As much as I love the rational/logical parts of life and theology, I find that the arts engage a different, and very important, part of my self, in a way that allows me to touch God, sense God -- words are failing me here. So, the architecture of some churches, icons, some kinds of dance, the physical motions of the liturgy (standing, kneeling, etc), and some kinds of music all help me to express and experience God's love.

For me, the praise band kind of music doesn't do much for me as worship -- too simple, or too secular, or both. Much better for me are chorales from the Renaissance or Baroque eras, or chants.

By the way, the quiz link reports that it's no longer accepting responses.
